Job Summary

Under direction of supervisor, provide computer workstation and IT services support via telephone, e-mail, and in-person at client work areas for members of the CBS Dean’s office, Department of Evolution and Ecology and its affiliated units. Provide support for desktop and laptop computer hardware and peripherals, Windows and Mac operating systems, application software, and in-house applications.

Troubleshoot hardware, software, and network connectivity. Work with team members to manage Windows and Mac client workstations, and associated peripherals. Plan, quote, purchase, build, initialize and update workstations as new releases, upgrades, patches and hot-fixes become available and approved. Follow documented procedures.

Configure workstations to match department or unit specific configurations and to comply with campus security policies. Backup, restore and transfer user data and preferences when applicable. Work with Systems Administrator on research, planning, development, testing and production of server-side hardware and software technologies, including network security, storage, server maintenance and resource management.

Assist the IT unit with special projects. Work on short-term and long-term assignments within the IT unit. Document assignments and support incidents in the in-house issue tracking system.

Manage departmental hardware and software inventory, including system maintenance, tracking of loaned equipment and decommissioning/e-waste.

Provide technical assistance with presentations, events, signage, and recruitments.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Physical Demands: Use computer equipment, read computer monitors for extended periods of time; Work with clients via telephone for extended periods of time; Handle service calls between remote areas of the College and the IT unit; Position requires reaching and working with desktop area workstations and equipment mounted in computer racks with access that may be located anywhere from the bottom to the top of standard 42U racks.
  • Lifting Requirements: Lift and move materials weighing up to 50 lbs.; Handcart is available.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

·       Travel to various campus buildings and locations in the City of Davis for CBS events involving computing services.

·       Restricted vacation during peak workload periods.

·       Work flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, and evenings, usually on short notice to meet operational needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Experience:

·       IT experience to independently research, plan, test, document and resolve incidents and problems, which includes technical experience to troubleshoot and maintain PC and Mac hardware, operating systems, and related software applications.

·       Experience providing support for Windows and Mac OS operating systems.

·       Experience providing technical support for Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, web browsers, and other desktop applications.

·       Experience providing support for wired and wireless networks.

·       Experience providing technical support for physical and logical disk management; data encryption; printer and other device drivers.

·       Experience with Windows Server installation, configuration, and security.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

·       Ability to provide support for Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Mail, and mobile clients for POP3, IMAP and Microsoft Exchange services, and Microsoft Active Directory and Group Policy Objects.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Education/Experience:   

·       Experience working in a higher education environment with teaching, research and computer labs.

·       Experience providing technical support for campus uConnect/Office 365 service for calendar and email.

·       Experience with UCD campus computing resources, including Infoblox, VLAN administration, campus IPS, network operations, data center, communication resources, TSP, TIF, Cyber Safety including utilizing these resources for problem resolution.

·       Experience with other Adobe suite components including Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, InDesign.
