Posting Context Statement
Conduct and supervise day-to-day custodial and maintenance needs of the Student Recreation Center. Conduct hiring training and supervision, daily workflow guidance, direction and assistance to custodial and maintenance staff members. Perform routine inspection and ensure facilities and equipment operate at optimum levels. Perform cleaning and maintain inventory of supplies/equipment and maintain equipment and facilities maintenance records. Collaborate on supply and equipment purchases with the Associate Director of Facilities and Operations. Support Student Recreation Center staff by advising, collaborating and assisting on the management of building and life-safety and fire codes and regulations.
Position Overview
The position is responsible for managing the Recreation and Wellbeing, Student Recreation Center and external recreation facilities and grounds to ensure the needs of faculty, staff and students are met. It will independently perform repair and maintenance tasks, responding to a variety of needs and issues. The position will manage operating budgets and planning for future needs to support university activities, ensuring compliance with university rules, regulations and policies. It will assess the needs of buildings for long-term functionality, developing and implementing standard operating procedures and project plans in accordance with business needs.
Duties may include:
  • Manage and oversee all facility-based projects
  • Assess building needs for long-term functionality, develop project plans including new construction, remodeling, major renovations and similar multi-layered projects
  • Track spending and maintain facility records, logs, documentation and reports
  • Supervise facilities support personnel and oversee the work of contractors on campus projects
  • Manage use of facilities, determine needs and coordinating staff responsibilities
  • Repair and maintain facilities
  • Assist trades team members in various maintenance, installations and repairs
  • Maintain and repair tools and equipment
  • Assist in the procurement of parts, tools, supplies, appliances and equipment for facility
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Qualifications


Required Experience
  • Three years performing a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and repair
  • Using computer software and applications for word processing, project and budget management, email and internet research
  • Operating and maintaining vehicles and equipment
Required Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
Required Other
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to meet policy requirements for driving university-owned vehicles
  • Responding to emergencies, working weekends and evenings as needed, to meet the business needs of the facility

Additional Preferred
  • Five years performing a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and repairs
  • Experience completing several projects simultaneously
  • Experience working with several university support units, facility users and management
  • Knowledgeable of general building safety codes relating to fire doors, electrical safety, egress routes, emergency lights and fume exhaust systems
  • Adequate skills in math, reading, problem solving and oral and written communications
  • Current technician certificates from Precor and Life Fitness equipment manufacturers
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing complex electrical components including the use of a multi-meter
  • Experience and knowledge of heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) work
  • Experience and knowledge of methods, materials and equipment used in heavy-duty custodial work
  • Experience and knowledge of space planning, electrical aspects of commercial buildings and computerized building controls
  • Experience utilizing project maintenance software and databases
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
  • Ability to:
    • Lift, carry or otherwise move items weighing up to 50 pounds
    • Bend, stoop and lift
    • Work in inclement weather conditions
    • Work from ladders, lifts, scaffolding etc.
