Job Summary:

University Housing is in search of multiple Building Services Supervisors to join our Building Services team! This is a supervisory role that leads and oversees the work of Facilities Technicians and Custodial staff ensuring facilities are properly maintained for residence hall, apartments, and/or dining locations.
Qualified candidates possess previous custodial experience and at least 2 years of supervisory experience. University Housing Facilities is a people first employer that supports a work/life balance. Responsibilities:
Identifies work unit resources needs, supervises and develops effective custodial teams and/or coordinates project work to ensure the cleanliness, orderliness, and safety of institutional property.
  • 15% Identifies work unit resource needs, manages workflow components, schedules logistics and secures resources for the completion of established projects by internal and external entities.
  • 10% Implements the use of and provides training for new supplies/equipment to ensure adequate utilization.
  • 45% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees.
  • 25% Develops, implements, and schedules operational work plans of staff for one or multiple projects or work units.
  • 5% Identifies, develops and implements facility emergency and hazardous response policies and procedures to align with institutional safety rules and regulations.

Tasks:
  • Communicates in English via radio, written instruction, and in person with staff and supervisors.
  • Communicates with residents and guests to address needs and service requests
  • Ensures completion of work in occupied and vacant housing spaces
  • Coordinates and collaborates with vendors, outside contractors and physical plant staff
  • Creates, leads, and participates in a collaborative team environment modeling the Division of Housing's Core Values
  • Demonstrates exceptional customer service to internal and external customers
  • Incorporates and effectively uses technology to complete work
  • Ensures proper inventory of supplies
  • Ensures proper use and maintenance of equipment
  • Provides after hours, weekend, and holiday coverage as operationally needed and/or as part of assigned schedule rotation
  • Provides support and assists as needed in the implementation of plans and procedures in the event of an emergency
  • Supervises and leads the work of career and student staff
  • Provide management coverage for operations in absence of other supervisors.
  • Trains and ensures compliance to prescribed cleaning standards.
  • Assist in the coordination and supervision of after-hours and weekend snow removal as needed.
  • Ensures proper use and maintenance of equipment

Education:

Qualifications:

Required
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a direct supervisor of employees
- At least 6 months of custodial experience in institutional, hospitality, retail, events or related settings
Preferred
- Ability to demonstrate a proficiency in basic computer skills (Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, etc.)


License/Certification:

Preferred
Drivers License - Valid and Meets UW Risk Management Standards

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $55,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
This is a full-time appointment. The starting annual salary is $55,000 or higher based on qualifications and includes a competitive retirement and benefits package.


Additional Information:

Primary schedule for this position is Monday - Friday, 8 hour shifts between 7:00am and 5:00pm with rotating weekend coverage. Schedule will be determined upon hire.
