Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking an Accountant for The Boggs Center, reporting to The Boggs Center’s Assistant Director of Finance and Administration [Program Director], this position is responsible for the monthly reconciliation of Federal and State Grants to the University’s General Ledger and The Boggs Center in accordance with university policies and procedures.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Responsible for monthly reconciliations for Boggs Center grants and contracts in place at Rutgers University.
  • Oversees budgets for grant accounts and endowment accounts across multiple funding sources.
  • Ensures proper recording of revenues and expenses.
  • Develops and prepares independent analysis of federal and state grants in response to requests from supervisor, The Boggs Center Director, Associate Director, University, and auditors.
  • Processes cash journals, journal entries, check requests, and IPO requests. Performs professional level work requiring knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Practices (GAAP).
  • Provides assistance on various projects and processes that require broad knowledge and the application and use of concepts, theories, and terminology of the organization.

Work Arrangement
Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a related field plus eighteen (18) college level credit hours in professional accounting subjects. 
  • One (1) year experience in responsible phases of accounting or auditing operations. 
  • Applicants lacking the degree (but not the accounting credits) may substitute appropriate related experience on year-for year basis. 
  • Equivalent experience, education and/or training may be substituted for the education requirements.
  • Experience working in or with higher education institutions.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Professional knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and practices (GAAP) and a good understanding and application of concepts, theories, principles, practices, terminology.
  • Strong analytical, reconciliation and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite of products and advanced Excel skills. 
  • Ability to monitor and analyze complex data and create financial reports based on analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills. 
  • Exceptional customer service skills with a focus on quality customer service to students, staff, and University departments. 
  • Attention to detail, good problem-solving skills.
