Description
Provides expertise in support of research projects in engineering, biology, mathematics, statistics, computer science, physics, etc. Prepares and edits research papers, proposal, and reports. Performs advanced testing procedures and analyses of data. May prepare samples for testing. Performs advanced testing procedure and performs analyses of data. Makes uses of a variety of specialized equipment typical within area of specialization. May contribute to grant proposal development. Ensures experiments are performed according to specifications. May make recommendations to changes in procedure, processes, or experimental design. Possesses, understands, and applies an advanced knowledge of a professional natural, physical, or engineering field or multiple fields of specialization to develop unique and new approaches or ideas. Understands and uses research tools and equipment, and utilizes effective management techniques. Duties: Plans and conducts research in one or more large and complex areas of specialization. Reviews progress of projects. May liaison with other areas of specialization to obtain support or technical expertise for projects. Defines procedures or processes to be used in the experimental processes. May personally conduct important and/or technically complex investigations. Supervision: Operates with considerable latitude for unreviewed action. Reviews and evaluates the effectiveness of personnel.

We welcome applicants with experience who are motivated to work independently in corneal and retinal function and disease. In this role, you will perform animal related jobs including but not limited to mouse colony management, survival mouse surgical interventions, tissue collection and histology, and behavioral studies, wet lab work including but not limited to fluorescence microscopy and molecular studies, and data analysis and laboratory management. In-depth knowledge of Photoshop, Image J and other image analysis software, excel including macros and automation, and Powerpoint is required. Finally, in this role, you will contribute original ideas to the development and execution of projects, contribute to research design with Principal Investigators and scientist, and serve as co-author to prepare reports and manuscripts for publication. Priority will be placed on candidates who have strengths in the following areas: corneal innervation, retinal biology, behavior, confocal microscopy, brain anatomy, transgenic animals, and data and colony management.
Qualifications
Researcher 4 Nat Phys Science- Masters and 5 years experience
Sr. Researcher Nat Phys Science - Masters and 7 years experience
Additional Qualifications and Skills:
- Graduate degree with 5 years of experience is preferred but relevant experience in lieu of education will be considered.
- Small animal survival surgery, ocular surgery
- Behavioral analyses in light perception and ocular surface pain
- Immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence confocal microscopy for cornea and retina
- Image and data analysis
- Experience with transgenic mouse lines, breeding, genotyping and behavioral testing
Salary: salary commensurate with education/experience.
