The Byers Eye Institute (Department of Ophthalmology) at Stanford University School of Medicine is a top-tier, internationally recognized, multidisciplinary center combining world-class resources with a commitment to providing the highest level of diagnostic and therapeutic care to our patients.  Our faculty and staff provide excellence in ocular and vision healthcare to patients, while our cutting-edge team of investigators carry out innovative laboratory research, big data projects (ie AAO’s IRIS registry and other data sets housed at Stanford), and clinical trials (both single and multi-site). We are seeking a Biostatistician 3 to facilitate cutting-edge scientific studies initiated by investigators at Byers by providing expertise in biostatistics and informatics, including mentorship and education for clinical investigators in research methods.

The incumbent will be expected to work closely with investigators, providing statistical consultation and/or oversight for project lifecycle including the proposal, design, performance,  data monitoring and analysis, presentation and manuscript preparation. They will collaborate with investigators to oversee trainees and data analysts in data cleaning and creation of analytic files. The ideal candidate should enjoy interacting and working with many different people and teams, be able to follow through in a fast-paced environment, adapt well to changing priorities, anticipate and plan for tight deadlines, employ critical thinking in daily tasks, and be a self-starter.

This is a hybrid position with approximately 2 days/week on-site to meet with PIs and other research personnel. Additional on-site work may be required based on project needs. Work location will be at the Spencer Center for Vision Research and the Byers Eye Institute at Stanford.

Duties include:

·       Oversee lower-level staff on quality control.

·       Oversee lower-level staff on creation of analytic files.

·       Identify appropriate statistical tools for analysis.

·       Implement data analysis through statistical programming.

·       Consult with investigators and others on appropriate statistical approaches to data analyses; assist in study design.

·       Develop oral and written dissemination of findings for conference presentations and peer-reviewed journal articles.

·       Mentor clinical investigators on relevant research methods.

·       Implement studies to address statistical issue arising from collaborations.

The expected pay range for this position is $139,000 - $165,000 per annum.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

Master's degree in biostatistics, statistics or related field and at least 5 years of experience or Ph.D. in biostatistics, statistics or related field.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

·       Proficient in at least two of R, SAS, SPSS, or STATA.

·       Skills in descriptive analysis, modeling of data, and graphic interfaces.

·       Outstanding ability to communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.

·       Demonstrated excellence in at least one area of expertise, which may include coordinating studies; statistical methodology such as missing data, survival analysis, statistical genetics, or informatics; statistical computing; database design (e.g., expertise in RedCAP or MySQL); graphical techniques (e.g., expertise in Illustrator).

·       Experience with clinical trials and/or big data projects desirable

·       Frequently perform desk based computer tasks, seated work and use light/ fine grasping.

·       Occasionally stand, walk, and write by hand, lift, carry, push pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
