The Biomedical Instrument Technician position reports to the Director of Materials Management. Under minimal supervision, to install, inventory, inspect, repair, calibrate, and maintain biomedical equipment in the OR, clinical, and support areas with a focus on patient care equipment of mid to higher level risk, complexity, and/or criticality. To resolve and/or escalate more advanced service issues. To ensure the safe operation and effective performance of equipment by conducting the approved program for quality control and maintenance.  To maintain, collect, reference, and retrieve the data collected via the workflow responsibilities of the program. 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Under minimum supervision, respond to service calls, or repair needs for mid to high-complexity medical equipment. Investigate incidents involving medical equipment and perform necessary corrective action. 
  • Inspects and tests equipment following applicable manufacturer schedules. Ensures safe and proper operation of medical equipment.
  • Assembles, calibrates and installs medical equipment when applicable. Appropriately remove old equipment from use as necessary. Assists engineers with planning for equipment needs.
  • Performs on-call services for medical equipment problems.
  • Documents all service, repair, maintenance, and other equipment inventory-related events for data integrity purposes.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
 

Qualifications

 

Qualifications

Associate degree in Electronics Technology or related field or equivalent military training required. Or an equivalent combination or relevant education and/or experience.

Knowledge/Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology
  • Knowledge of the function or application of various types of medical equipment
  • Knowledge of safety standards and guidelines (NFPA, Joint Commission, Manufacturer, CEH, and Safety
  • Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming
  • Ability to lift fifty (50) pounds.
  • Knowledge of electrical and electronics theory including A-C power and ground theory, A-C and D-C component
  • Knowledge of machines and tools including their design, uses, repair, and maintenance.
