Bioinformatics Data Analyst I
Med-Computational and Systems Biology - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (24005505)
The Roth Lab seeks someone motivated for the position of bioinformatician at the level of Data Analyst I. The successful candidate will be an integral part of a dynamic, interdisciplinary team of researchers, graduate students, and postdocs, investigating the function and impacts of human DNA sequence variation. The bioinformatician will work closely with students and staff on development, maintenance and operation of research data analysis pipelines, while allotting some time for leading computational research activities.
Job Summary
Evaluates business requirements and performs basic data integration and analysis. Develops routine analytical and reporting tools utilizing integrated data. Provides technical support.
Essential Functions
Qualifications: Must have BSc in software engineering, bioinformatics, or equivalent, involving coursework in computer programming, statistics, biology, and bioinformatics. Must have at least one year working experience in a research environment. Must have experience working with high-performance computing in a Unix environment. Must have demonstrated proficiency in the languages of R and Python. Must have experience with computational analysis of biological data, especially sequencing data. Must have experience in web development (Node, Vue). Experience with cloud services would be an asset (Google Cloud, Docker). Experience with sequence alignment software (e.g., Samtools) would be an asset. Background knowledge in basic molecular biology and genetics would be an asset.
Physical Effort
Physical effort associated with wet lab work, i.e. standing while conducting experiments, sitting while working on computer, walking back and forth in the lab to sinks and microscopes, lifting packages less than 20lbs., etc.
Responsibilities: Develop, maintain, and use software pipelines for analysis of next-generation sequencing data. Maintain and develop web-based analysis and analysis reporting applications. Perform data analysis for multiple projects, being able to prioritize tasks in order to meet deadlines as needed. Communicate the results of bioinformatics analyses in written and oral presentations.
