Stanford Universityis seeking aBiostatistician 2 to join thelab of Dr. Tanja A. Gruber at the Stanford School of Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of HematologyOncology Stem Cell Transplant and Regenerative Medicine. Thisindividual will analyze large and small datasets fromnext generation sequencing platforms and perform statistical analyses as needed. This is a highlycollaborative position, working with benchtop scientists and clinicians on projects in addition toleading bioinformatic based projects. Thebiostatisticianisexpectedtobewithsomeindependence, consult withinvestigatorstorefineresearchquestions, define hypotheses, design studies, devise analysis plans and visualize results of studies.

Dutiesinclude:

·       Designstudy.

·       Developandimplementprotocolforqualitycontrol.

·       Createanalyticfileswithdetaileddocumentation.

·       Selectappropriatestatisticaltoolsforaddressingagivenresearchquestion.

·       Implementdataanalysisthroughstatisticalprogramming.

·       Presentresultsforinvestigatorsusinggraphsandtables.

·       Summarizefindingsorallyandinwrittenform.

·       Participateinthepreparationofpapersfor publication.

·       Consultwithinvestigatorsonappropriatestatisticalapproachestodataanalyses; assistinstudydesignandproposal development.

·       Mentorcollaboratorsinareasofexperimentaldesign,qualitycontrol,andstatisticalanalysis

·       Developoralandwrittendisseminationoffindingsforconferencepresentationsandpeer-reviewedjournalarticles.

·       Overseelower-levelstaffon issuesrelatedtoqualitycontrolandcreationofanalysisfiles.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs. The pay range for this position working in the California Bay area is $101,000 to $125,000.


DESIREDQUALIFICATIONS:

        Previousexperiencewithanalysisofhighthroughputdataandlargedatasetsfromnext generationsequencingplatforms, mass spectrometry, microarrays, etc.

        Proficiencyinatleastonedata-analysisorscriptinglanguage(R,Python/Perl,orotherlanguages).

        PreviousexperienceusingUnix/Linuxenvironment.

        Demonstratedabilitytoworkwithbiologiststoapplycomputationalapproachestomeetresearchgoals.

        Designanddevelopalgorithmsforanalyzinggenomicsdata.

        Experiencecommunicatingdiverseandtechnicalwork.

        Demonstratedabilitytoworkproductivelyaspartofateam.

        Attentiontodetailandhighstandardforqualityofworkproduct.

        Experienceworkingoncollaborativeresearchprojects.

        Abilitytoinitiate,organize,andmanageresearch projectsandclearlycommunicateanalysisresultstodiverseaudiences.

EDUCATION&EXPERIENCE(REQUIRED):

Master'sdegreeinbiostatistics,statisticsorrelatedfieldandatleast3yearsofexperience.

KNOWLEDGE,SKILLSANDABILITIES(REQUIRED):

·       ProficientinatleasttwoofR,SAS, SPSS,orSTATA.

·       Skillsindescriptiveanalysis,modelingofdata,andgraphicinterfaces.

·       Outstandingabilitytocommunicatetechnicalinformationtobothtechnicalandnon-technicalaudiences.

·       Demonstrated excellencein atleastonearea ofexpertise, which mayincludecoordinatingstudies; statisticalmethodology such as missing data, survival analysis, statistical genetics, or informatics; statistical computing; database design (e.g., expertise in RedCAP or MySQL); graphical techniques (e.g., expertise in Illustrator).
