General Information
James Madison University’s Facilities Management is seeking a Bilingual Training Inspector for Housekeeping. The hours for this position are Monday – Friday, 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., with some rotating on-call responsibilities and overtime, as required, to cover special events or inclement weather.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Establishes and maintains practices to increase Environmental Services’ diversity, inclusivity, and engagement.
  • Helps current Environmental Services staff, whose primary language is not English, to be successful and meet the mission and objectives of the department and the university.
  • Converts all training guides and applicable departmental documents and communications to a readable Spanish version.
  • Assists with duties associated with the recruitment process such as serving on the interview panel when needed to translate from Spanish to English and assisting in completing references checks when calling Spanish references.
  • Partners with HR to develop and implement recruiting and hiring strategies to attract diverse employees. Participates in job fairs, and attends community events, and international fairs.
  • Conducts inspections of university buildings to ensure cleanliness. Provides input to management for improvement.
  • Assists in training new hires in addition to regular training for current employees and ensures employees have the knowledge and skills to meet all cleaning standards and safety procedures.
  • Fills in for housekeeping supervisors as needed.

The employee in this position will be considered designated, meaning the work performed is essential to university operations and the employee will be required to work during periods of authorized closings.
Qualifications
Required:
  • Working knowledge of cleaning methods, chemicals, equipment, and machines and of safety practices related to custodial service.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong and effective communication abilities in both English and Spanish to include translating / interpreting verbally and in written format.
  • Ability to: supervise; and the ability to effectively train others and explain processes; work independently; lead the work of others; read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations; perform manual labor on a sustained basis, and operate large cleaning equipment such as buffers and vacuums.
  • Ability to work with diverse and underrepresented populations.
  • Applicants must be at least 19 years old with a valid driver’s license.
