About the Position

 

The Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst StAS is an AWS data engineer with advanced SQL query development skills who partners with business experts, such as Financial Aid Operations, Veterans Affairs, the Office of Admissions and Records, and StAS Fraud Compliance, to evaluate their compliance and process needs and creates automated testing or other automated solutions to mitigate compliance risk or optimize business processing. Working on small- to large-scale projects of moderate to difficult complexity such as automated analytics, bot controls, dynamic dashboards, or automated flows. Ensures that the scope of work requested to develop, enhance or modify existing automated analytics is clearly documented, communicated and validated. Works closely with data reporting specialists and business experts to recommend, design, develop, document, test and validate automated testing or other automated solutions that meet business and compliance requirements.


 What You’ll Do:

1. Act as a SME in techniques and technologies currently leading the industry and foster a collaborative environment with business stakeholders, subject matter experts, data reporting specialists, and other developers. 

2. Act as the point of contact for the assignment of specific work item(s) for automated solutions, automated analytics and enhancement projects of moderate complexity; coordinate day-to-day activities for small- to large-sized projects; participate in status meetings and provide status reports.

3. Identify data sources required to support the prioritized business requirements as well as key operational and statistical metrics of operating performances and creates value-added reporting analysis results for all customers, including Pass, and At-Risk populations for key compliance activities related to employee performance and system processes.

4. Design, create, and review internal reporting controls to assist with ensuring the University is in compliance with governance audits and regulatory requirements and to mitigate other risk factors with providing an efficient platform to do so, and identify data sources required to support the business requirements.

5. Utilize and interpret detailed documentation of functional business processes, including business cases, system process diagrams, report specifications, functional requirements, and other data mapping diagrams. 

6. Conduct research and analysis for proposed projects. Participate in virtual alignment sessions, exploratory meetings and daily scrum calls. Provide feasibility, level of effort and occasionally return on investment (ROI); present findings to leadership; execute requests related to audits, escalated student or business requests and/or provide supporting documentation to resolve inquiries from departmental leadership.

7. Define testing requirements, including regression, user acceptance and other tests as needed, staging data and perform final test execution to ensure compliance and/or business needs are met; support data reporting specialists and control efforts via data analysis as part of pre- and post-implementation reviews for automated analytic projects.

8. Provide direction and/or support to less experienced data reporting specialists to orient them and increase their understanding of AWS, SQL, coding, designing, and development of requested reporting. Collaborate with other developers and provide feedback to leadership to improve the process and standards of code, and support these initiatives through rollout documentation and coding standards. 

9. Bring unique skills (C#, SharePoint, Flows, Power BI, Power Apps, RPA, Lambda, etc.) to the team to offer creative solutions that align with team goals and provide support to others in upskilling

10. Perform other duties as assigned or apparent.

 MINIMUM EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor's degree in technology related field OR completion of IT/Coding SQL Bootcamp and two (2) years of relevant work experience in a data science, SQL developer, or business analyst capacity OR,

• Four (4) years of relevant work experience in a data science, or SQL developer capacity.

• With at least Three (3) years of experience writing SQL (T-SQL and/or PL/SQL preferred), working with AWS S3, Redshift, Kafka

 

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience in Title IV Financial Aid or the Higher Education Industry

• Experience in ETL processes such as SSIS or AWS Glue.

• Experience working with large and complicated data sets 

• Demonstrated knowledge working in an Agile development process

• Functional knowledge of internal source applications such as Osiris, Program Workbench, Oracle Financials and Oracle SFP (Vocado).

• Functional knowledge of external, government data sources such as National Students Loan Data System (NSLDS), Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) and VA Once. 

• An understanding of the business and related processes including but not limited to: Financial Aid, Admissions and Records, Student Advisement and Veteran’s Affairs.

• An understanding of Scrum, Agile and Waterfall methodologies

• Experience working in a cloud-based infrastructure such as AWS.

• Experience working with project tracking software such as TFS, Git and BitBucket.

• Proven experience in data visualizations, dashboards through software such as PowerBI, QuickSight, etc). 

• Strong analytical and research skills

• Strong documentation and communication skills

• Advanced Excel, Access, Sharepointe, RPA, Power App or Power Automate experience

• Strong problem solving, time management and organizational skills

• Demonstrate a growth mindset and exhibit a create, highly collaborative workstyle

• Ability to periodically work some nights, weekends or on call

Pay Range


The annual pay range for this position is $59,900 (minimum), $89,300 (midpoint), and $118,700 (maximum).*


*Typical hiring range is between the minimum and midpoint of the above pay range. Actual starting base pay may vary based on factors such as education, experience, skills, location and budget.
