POSITION SUMMARY
The Physician Clerk serves as clerical support to the Physician. Involves assisting the program physician with clerical
and technical support within an office setting. They work closely with the physician to ensure patient care is provided
in timely and appropriate manner and to facilitate documentation of care. The Physician Clerk must have the ability
to work independently, perform detailed work, and organize workloads. Requires computer skills in works, word and
Excel. They must have the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines, assume a variety of responsibilities and work
with a variety of personalities and dispositions with a calm demeanor. Models telephone courtesy. Maintains
computerized tickler file system and prepares schedule of task/documentation needed in order to assist physician in
meeting documentation requirements according to established guidelines. Schedules patient appointments as
directed by physician and coordinates appointment times with program in order to provide patient care. Obtains
physician signatures on Lab reports, consultations, progress notes, etc. Files signed documents in the appropriate
record within prescribed time frames in order to document patient care. Facilitates patient/physician contact by
escorting patients to physician’s office as directed by physician in order to provide patient care. Fosters a positive
attitude of mutual respect among team members and models a zero tolerance of disrespect of administration and
staff-splitting. Monitors telephone orders each morning in order to ensure physician finalizes in the clinical record
system within designated time frames. Audit patient records routinely in order to maintain compliance with
documentation guidelines, identity compliance issues and maintain accuracy.
Provides accurate billing information for accounting. Attends treatment team meetings in order to identify
documentation needs (i.e. change in medication, discharge order needed, guardianship issues, etc.) in order to
ensure accurate and timely documentation. Performs clerical duties for physicians as needed. Exhibits
professionalism in personality, appearance and integrity. Adapts effectively and efficiently to changes in instructions,
duties and assignments. Performs other duties as assigned. Completion of Annual Mandatory training, SAMA
training, TB testing and required licensure and certifications before expiration date



Qualifications

 

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or equivalent. Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred.  Medical Office experience preferred and role requires familiarity with medical terminology.
