Barista/Event Server

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is hiring a seasonal Barista/Event Server.  This individual provides food, beverage, and coffee bar service to employees and visitors. 

• Prepare and serve beverages and food.
• Verify revenue and expenses incurred from beverage and food transactions.
• Troubleshoot and conduct minor repairs for the coffee equipment.
• Maintain sanitary workplace conditions.
• Take inventory and restock products.
• Anticipate customer and workplace needs by evaluating the environment and customer for cues.
• Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality.
• Provide quality beverages and food by adhering to the menu, health, safety, and sanitation guidelines for all products.
• Set up, maintain, and clean up culinary services events held at various locations.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays, according to events and the seasonal needs of the department. 

EDUCATION: High School Diploma
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of one year experience working in a coffee bar, food service, or hospitality

• Must possess a valid driver’s license and own transportation.
• Ability to speak and understand the Spanish language is helpful.        
  • Familiarity with a variety of coffee beverages.
  • Ability to follow beverage preparation recipes.
  • Knowledge of serving, buffet, and catering service procedures.
  • Ability to use the point-of-sale system.
  • Ability to open and close the bank (money management).
  • Ability to troubleshoot the coffee bar equipment and perform minor repairs.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Diplomacy and tact.
  • Telephone, social, and hospitality-related étiquette.
  • Ability to resolve customer discrepancies and inquiries with tact.
  • Ability to maintain a calm demeanor during periods of high volume.
  • Ability to learn quickly.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to interact with a wide variety of individuals of diverse cultures, ethnicities, and professional profiles.
  • Understanding of proper sanitation procedures (Nassau County sanitation certification, preferred).
  • Ability to learn the Eatec inventory control software for submitting requisitions. 
  • Computer Software Knowledge:  Outlook, Word, Excel
  • Point-of-Sale experience a plus

Compensation:

The hourly rate for this role is $17.72-$19.74.   The hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future. When determining a base salary and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., years of relevant experience, education, credentials, and internal equity).
