Student Financial Services at the University of Virginia seeks a creative and energetic Awarding Specialist to join their team. The Awarding Specialist will be play an imperative role within our team by providing support for our student and parents. Job Description/Responsibilities:

Award federal, state, institutional, non-university resources

  • Determine and award students based on their financial aid eligibility to receive funds based on federal/state regulations, institutional policies, and donor requirements.
  • Accurately award funds according to federal and institutional need ensuring federal, state, institutional, and non-university resources are applied appropriately.
  • Participate in quality control efforts to determine if award packages are correct and follow standard packaging rules.
  • Utilize and record professional judgement on a case-by-case situation to provide the student with the best award package for unique circumstances.
  • Prioritize workload according to department deadlines for specified cohorts and monitor awarding queues to minimize delays.
  • Regularly document awarding comments within the imaging system and/or student information system.
  • Participate in the testing of awarding tools, revised packaging formulas, modified workflow queues, and accuracy of new reports.

Awarding/scholarship activities

  • Assist in the resolution of inquiries made by students/parents or other university departments utilizing clear communication methods and follow-up.
  • Act in a backup role for scholarship activities during peak periods or personnel absence.
  • Extract data from scholarship letters, mailed checks, emails, and other forms of documentation to be recorded into the imaging system and used for awarding purposes.
  • Process scholarship/grant certification requests.
  • Document awarding processes to be used as standard operating procedures.
  • Participate in projects and initiatives to improve efficiencies within Student Financial Services.
  • Participate in financial aid methodology discussions, planning of aid year rollover maintenance, and departmental training opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree preferred; however, relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience: At least two years of financial aid experience or relevant experience is required.  

Anticipated Hiring Range: $45,000 - $52,000 commensurate with candidate's experience and qualifications. This is an Exempt level, benefited position. For more information on benefits, visit UVA benefits . 

Hybrid Schedule: The position is a Hybrid position located in Charlottesville, VA. 

This position will remain open until filled.  The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment.
