AVT Project Manager

Position Summary
University IT (UIT) AVT Solutions team, part of the Business Affairs organization at Stanford University, is dedicated to delivering world-class service and technological solutions to advance research, teaching and learning, administration, and healthcare. Stanford University is expanding its Audio/Video (A/V) services, and we are looking for an AV project manager who can excel in orchestrating and prioritizing timely deployment of multiple large A/V systems and equipment implementation projects in a fast pace and fluid environment. In parallel, the project manager is expected to incorporate, adopt, and support continuous process change, and A/V service improvements. The position will be managing medium to large sized A/V projects, but as needed, may also be assigned to other IT infrastructure projects such as network, cellular, telephony VoIP and call center projects. 

This position reports to the Director of UIT AVT Solutions. The project manager is required to leverage project management best practices to drive continuous results and improvements and ensure consistent high-quality outcomes. The project manager is expected to weigh the interests of multiple stakeholders and act with the highest professionalism and exercise independent judgment and decision-making.

The ideal candidate has a successful track record of delivering enterprise-wide ranging from simple to advanced audio-visual systems. Desired experience includes a proven track record of motivating a diverse team, partnering effectively with sponsors and decision-makers, and identifying and efficiently managing project risks, while successfully managing projects to timely delivery and within budgetary expectations. The position is typically focused 80% on project leadership and 20% on technical contribution. The project manager is expected to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Core Responsibilities
Project Management

  • Perform the full range of project management cycle: initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, and controlling, and closing.
  • Independently lead and direct projects requiring high levels of functional/technical integration and involving multiple disciplines to be managed.
  • Originate project charter defining/shaping the project’s scope, goals/objectives, solution approach, system integration and impact to other systems, project team organization, roles/responsibilities, risks and assumption, project financials.
  • Develop an action plan and estimate requirements for resources, including management, labor, materials, and time required to complete the project.
  • Create and implement project plans and work breakdown structures aligned with business and technical plans and directions; revise as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.
  • Facilitate discussions and negotiations to drive recommendation and consensus.
  • Develop and help execute comprehensive change management strategy and communication plan relative to project scope and stakeholders; orchestrate and lead change management methodologies underlying project success.
  • Evaluate and assess metrics and project effectiveness, assess and proactively monitor and control risks, progress and trends impacting successful project delivery.
  • Assist with PPM/PMO process improvement initiatives as defined in the PMO roadmap.

Qualification:
Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and five years of related experience in management of projects with extensive size/complexity and moderate performance risk, including project planning, scheduling, tracking, and budgeting, or combination of 

Education and relevant experience.

  • Previous experience managing large A/V implementation  and IT infrastructure projects.
  • Field Installation or engineering experience is preferred.

  • Ability to productively assemble, engage, and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated project management ability to employ integration, scope time management, cost, quality, human resources, communications, risk, and procurement components.

  • Demonstrated resilience, diplomacy, influence, relationship building, and problem-solving skills in a variety of situations.
  • Keen grasp of interpersonal and impact awareness.
  • Depth of knowledge in technical discipline/domain needed to deliver projects.
  • Proven experience managing multiple large A/V deployments in a complex and fluid environment.
  • Understanding of basic A/V and telecom/VoIP mechanics (, e.g., VoIP, PBX, Call Manager, Contact Center, paging, TDM) and basic knowledge of service delivery and operation strongly desired.
  • Experience with managing IT technical infrastructure components for new and/or updated buildings.
  • Proven experience with Agile and Waterfall project management methodologies strongly desired.
  • Knowledge of project management tools and software development lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Proven experience in developing and maintaining complex and integrated project plans.
  • Proven experience in people, change, risk, and conflict management is strongly desired.
  • Proven ability to build relationships and motivate cross-functional teams to achieve results in a consensus driven environment strongly desired.
  • Ability to lead and direct a team of internal and external technical and business staff and align technical needs with business goals strongly desired.
  • Solid leadership, negotiation, persuasion, and facilitation skills are strongly desired.
  • Ability to navigate stressful situations and make/negotiate decisions on complex problems strongly desired.
  • Solid experience with MS Office tools (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Visio) strongly desired.
  • Knowledge and understanding of university operations, administration and community desired.

Certifications and Licenses

  • CTS, CTS-I Certifications preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently sit, perform desk-based computer tasks, and grasp lightly/fine manipulation and lift/carry /push/pull objects that weigh up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasionally stand/walk, write by hand.
  • Rarely use a telephone, kneel, crawl, climb ladders, twist/bend/stoop/squat, reach/work above shoulder, grasp forcefully.
  • May be exposed to extreme hot and cold temperatures, be exposed to high voltage electricity, radiation or electromagnetic fields, lasers, noise > 80dB TWA, allergens/biohazards/chemicals/asbestos, or heavy metals or work on roofs at heights greater than 10 ft.
  • Travel locally and cross-university.

The expected pay range for this position is $138,000 - $180,000 per annum.
