Residential & Dining Enterprises (R&DE), the largest auxiliary organization at Stanford University, supports the academic mission of the University by providing high-quality services to students and other members of the university community. The department has an annual operating budget of over $350M, operates 24/7/365, and oversees a $3B asset portfolio comprising a 7 million sq. ft. physical plant across the campus. In autumn quarter of the 2021-22 academic year, R&DE will return to providing housing for over 13,000 students and dependents, serving meals at 17 dining halls, 12 retail locations, and operating athletic concessions and conference operations. Additionally, R&DE comprises 900 FTE staff in the following divisions: Student Housing Operations, Stanford Dining, Stanford Hospitality & Auxiliaries, Stanford Conferences, Maintenance Operations and Capital Projects, and a team of R&DE strategic business partners: Finance & Administration, Information Technology, Human Resources, and Strategic Communications.

R&DE Information Technology consists of 35 full and part-time staff. The department is organized into six teams: CIO office, Portfolio and Project Management Office, Enterprise Applications, Support Services, Information Security and Privacy, and Enterprise Infrastructure. R&DE IT supports over 85 applications and integrations, 2,200 technology assets, and 1,100+ users. In addition to providing excellence in everything they do, R&DE IT is dedicated to the mission and core values of Residential & Dining Enterprises. 

The Support Services team provides value by maintaining and advancing the technology needs of R&DE and is comprised of two core support areas: Desktop and Application support; Point of Sale (PoS) and Audio/Visual (A/V) and Digital Signage support. R&DE’s Desktop and Application team is responsible for the incident and request fulfillment related to desktop, mobile devices, printers, software, software licensing management, and front-line support for the application portfolio. 

R&DE’s Point of Sale (PoS) team provides support with the incident and request fulfillment related, but not limited to, break-fix, transactional solutions delivery, and license management across Athletic Concessions, 12 café and retail locations, 9 dining halls, The Stanford Guest House, and more than 20 youth camps during Summer Conferences. The A/V and digital signage team supports R&DE’s 3 conference centers and 47 conference rooms with on-site delivery, set up, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of equipment related to A/V. R&DE’s conference centers are equipped with state-of-the-art audio/visual equipment, including high-definition laser projection, sound, and capturing capabilities for various high-profile events ranging from boardroom meetings to banquets and receptions. 

The AV Support Specialist is a member of the Support Services team and furthers the organization's mission by providing the highest quality service to students and other members of the university community in a sustainable and fiscally responsible manner. This customer-facing role will provide A/V technical event management support to clients for their events at our venues. Additional responsibilities includes supporting computer hardware, software, and Audio/Visual (A/V) equipment and provide augmented support for the other services associated with the onsite retail café and computing environment. In this matrix support model, the incumbent will work closely with R&DE Stanford Dining, Hospitality and Auxiliaries staff, the conference center clients, and R&DE IT to deliver the best possible user experience. The individual will also work with internal and cross-functional teams on project execution and may contribute to the planning of operational support after project implementation. The incumbent must also have a “can do” attitude, engage in a team collaborative environment, and ensure that assets comply with all governing rules, policies and procedures while providing guidance and assistance to clients and staff. 

Fully On-Site:

This role is designated as essential and requires incumbents to report to work onsite (Palo Alto and Redwood City campuses). Telecommuting is not available for this role.

JOB PURPOSE:

Develop and execute digital media production assignments requiring fully developed skills and understanding of area of specialization. Partner with internal and external clients regarding digital media equipment and services. Serve as an in-house digital media expert for a school/unit.

CORE DUTIES:

  • Research, prepare and manage digital media for instruction, promotional programs, location and studio programs, live events, video conferences and webcasts, live-on-tape studio, and/or other communicative purposes for both internal and external audiences.
  • Partner with clients on strategic and creative approaches to AV event projects involving abstract or technical content to meet objectives and within time and cost constraints: articulating the AV production process and expectations, communicating issues, providing status updates, and suggesting appropriate methods for improvement.
  • Develop and support AV digital services to internal and external clients to manage visual content, including video and images and provide best practice standards that foster AV management and video excellence.
  • Manage all aspects of capturing, recording, and transmitting of all digital media AV productions, video and/or images
  • Make recommendations for purchases and repairs of AV media equipment. Diagnose and resolve AV media system problems. Create cost estimates for different equipment options. Provide stewardship of university resources.
  • May be responsible for producing remote multi-camera programs, supervising field crews and managing technical aspects and overall approach for productions, including all collateral.
  • May produce high-quality post-production and editing to ensure a quality product and an accurate depiction of content. May review and edit masters to meet the needs of the client(s) and/or producer and properly store, label, and archive of masters and edited masters.
  • May produce high-quality digital surrogates of fragile and/or rare materials or other analog sources for access, display, and preservation purposes using a variety of equipment.
  • May set up, operate and troubleshoot on a variety of equipment including but not limited to; video cameras, video projection, video conferencing, still photography, analog and digital audio recording. May train or provide guidance to other staff.
  • May act as liaison with vendors, develop strategies, workflows and rate cards for clients, identify competitive pricing for products and services and close projects for billings.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Advanced technical experience using AV and digital media equipment, video creation, editing software, and/or digital media control software. (Zoom, Crestron, Extron, Atlona)
  • Strong knowledge in production techniques including videography, compression and file delivery and other production formats.
  • Broad knowledge of all aspects of professional quality productions, including field and studio camera, lighting, sound and editing,
  • Understanding of online video environment and online distribution.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform repairs on a wide variety of audio, visual and computer equipment.
  • Ability to adapt equipment setup and provide alternative setup or workarounds if necessary.
  • Ability to manage a variety of simultaneous projects within tight deadlines, excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, mature judgment, and diplomacy required to interact effectively with and provide customer service to a broad audience.
  • Ability to work independently as well as effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • May require experience planning, coordinating, and executing archival digitization projects.

Certifications and Licenses:

Valid California Driver’s License required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks
  • Frequently stand/walk, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, and reach/work above shoulders.
  • Occasionally sit, twist/bend/stoop/squat.
  • Visual acuity including color vision.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a California Non-commercial Class license.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Occasionally work on weekends, evenings, holidays, and flexible shifts.

The expected pay range for this position is $90,000 to $110,000 per annum.
