As the Audiovisual Project Engineer, you will report to the Manager of Audiovisual Design and Engineering serving on the team focused on designing and supporting enterprise-grade audiovisual solutions that serve GW’s academic mission. The AV Design team works collaboratively with all engineering and support entities and end-user groups across the university at large. This is an Individual Contributor position at the university who works under limited supervision to apply subject matter knowledge to complete assignments and projects varying in complexity.
Responsibilities Include:
  • Typically with enterprise-wide scope, the Project Engineer supports the Sr. Engineer(s) by leading routine team projects including equipment maintenance and technology refresh upgrades and performs basic project management tasks. Responsible for the technical execution of projects from intake through installation, commissioning, and completion

  • Creates audiovisual systems Scope of Work and engineering documents to communicate specifications and performance criteria necessary to build properly functioning AV systems on routine upgrade and lifecycle maintenance projects

  • Performs site surveys, reviews prior project history, specifies equipment, specifies wiring of equipment

  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses complex problems on GW’s AV systems ensuring proper endpoint device communication on GW’s enterprise network

  • Coordinates directly with our subcontracted technicians, architects, GW’s Facilities Management, and network team, and other design trades (both internal and external to GW) as needed

  • Provides engineering support to the AV Field Engineer

  • Serves as a trusted partner with the Technology Service Delivery team supervisors and technicians in the support and maintenance of the current audiovisual infrastructure by serving as a Tier 3 escalation point and by actively contributing to continuing efforts to identify root problems and resolve systemic problems occurring in the environment

  • Keeps up-to-date on product software and firmware releases, and advises the team on relevant firmware releases in the applications to the production environment

  • Completes commissioning and testing of AV technology

  • Researches emerging audiovisual & collaboration technologies and converts research findings into functional proofs of concept in the development environment that can be evaluated by the AV Design and Collaboration Spaces team

  • Develop and maintain up-to-date project documentation, programs digital signal processors, and performs device and control system configuration

Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills and demonstrates ability to translate complex technical concepts for people unfamiliar with those concepts while avoiding jargon
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Demonstrates ability to use industry knowledge to solve problems in an innovative and creative way
  • Demonstrates ability to create system engineering design drawings and specifications documents. Familiarity with D-Tools is preferred
  • Demonstrates ability to apply project management principles to manage small projects and report project/task status and problems to upline management and project stakeholders
  • Working competency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Autodesk applications
  • Industry Certifications: AVIXA CTS (CTS-D preferred), CompTIA Network+ preferred; preferred product Certifications: Crestron, AMX, Extron, Biamp
  • Demonstrates understanding of IP network-based principles
  • Able to occasionally climb ladders and work from heights of 15 feet
