Position Summary
Identifies and evaluates patients with impaired hearing and balance or with hearing disorders and provides appropriate habilitation/rehabilitation.
Job Responsibilities

  • Administers tests of hearing, middle ear function to determine type and degree of impairment.
  • Administers tests for balance and performs exams using electrophysiology for neuroaudiologic assessment.
  • Evaluates hearing test results and patient's medical or background information to determine hearing impairment and treatment.
  • Counsels and instructs patients in options to improve communication function.
  • Provides assessment for amplification devices, including cochear implants and hearing aid devices.
  • Plans and conducts hearing loss prevention and treatment programs.
  • Records and maintains reports of hearing research or treatments.
  • Fits hearing aids and manages patient use of amplification.
  • Refers patients to additional medical or educational services if needed.
  • Conducts or directs research and reports findings on hearing topics to develop procedures, technology, or treatments.
  • Advises educators or other medical staff on hearing topics.
  • Participates in conferences or training to update or share knowledge of new hearing disorder treatment methods or technology.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education
  • Doctorate of Audiology (Au.D.)
Experience
Entry level, following completion of externship in Audiology.
License eligibility.

  • Ability to communicate well with their patients, despite potential hearing issues
  • Compassion and patience to make a patient feel comfortable
  • Critical-thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Detail oriented with excellent record keeping skills
  • Maintains continuing education license and certification requirement.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)
