FTE/Working Schedule : 0.83 FTE - This position is full time during the academic year.

Position Overview:
This is a .0.83 position with 2/3rds dedicated to supporting the Department of Cinema & Media Studies [CAMS] and 1/3rd to supporting the Director of the Arts on building-wide media projects and installations. The successful candidate will bring a proactive, collaborative, problem-solving orientation to the role.

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:

Technical:

  • Purchasing, maintaining, and operating a wide range of video and audio production equipment as appropriate to an advanced undergraduate media curriculum. This includes studio gear, field gear, control room equipment.

  • Managing and maintaining two CAMS video production studios, an audio recording studio, and associated control booths. This includes the full range of associated skills and competencies in video, audio and media production.

  • Working with Carleton IT staff to design, support and oversee computer-based media production labs, and associated video and audio systems.

  • Fluency in a range of media production software, especially Adobe Premiere Pro and other post-production software.

  • Supporting media events, screenings, and projects in the Weitz Center by CAMS or other entities under the direction of the Office of the Director of the Arts , as appropriate. Additionally, managing and operating technical systems, as appropriate.

  • Proactively keeping current with developments in cinema and audio-visual technology.

Managerial:

  • Organizing the CAMS Production Office, which stores, maintains, and loans equipment to students. This includes developing loan policies, field packages, security, and computer-based check-out tracking systems. 

  • Hiring, managing, scheduling, and overseeing student workers.

  • Organizing and overseeing the policies, practices and equipment and in the two CAMS production studios and in the audio recording studio.

  • Coordinating equipment and software policies and purchases for the department.

  • Working effectively with Carleton IT staff in specing computer equipment and software.
     

Additional:

  • Providing technical instruction and support to students in both production equipment and software. 

  • Working closely with the Director of Arts in developing and supporting occasional media events outside of CAMS within the Weitz Center, including projector installation and media management for installations. 

  • Participating in CAMS departmental meetings and activities as appropriate.
     

Education/Experience/Skills:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent experience.

  • At least two year’s experience in media/filmmaking technologies.

  • Demonstrated experience in project management, including organizing tasks and reporting on progress and result.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Flexibility to conduct some evening and weekend events and programs.
