What we want

The Athletic Assistant is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Texas A&M Lettermen s Association and will seek to engage former athletes in a mutually beneficial lifelong relationship with the university. Supervise all interns, staff and volunteers. Coordinate events, banquets and quarterly Board of Director s meetings. This position calls for technical and communicative skills as well as a knowledge of Texas A&M Athletic Department policies, procedures and sports history. Provide high level customer service to all members (current and prospective), visitors, staff, vendors and university officials.

Position details: Supervises 4-8 Student Assistants and Lettermen's Interns; Ability to work flexible hours (nights, weekends & holidays).

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • No required experience.

Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong customer service/interpersonal(communication) skills.

  • Experience coordinating events and banquets.

  • Ability to multitask in a fast paced environment and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Experience:

  • 2 years leadership or supervisory experience and/or 2 years experience in special events or membership based organization.

  • Graphic design experience.

  • Web page support experience.

  • At least one year of athletic administration experience.

Responsibilities

  • FACILITIES AND EVENTS - Develop and initiate new and innovative events focusing on the acquisition and retention of members. Coordinate all pre-event and event logistics. Supervise all event and intern staff. Administer Lettermen’s Club facility and calendar to include maintenance, catering, equipment, event setup / breakdown. Events include, but are not limited to, sport specific reunions, Football game day operations, annual Burgess Banquet, and Board of Director meetings.

  • MEMBERSHIP - Develop and effectively implement annual membership drive focused on the acquisition and retention of members. Maintain all membership records including member database, matriculation, attrition, annual net dues, new dues added, forecasting, etc. Maintain abbreviated office hours in Academic Offices for the purpose of effectively cultivating relationships with current Student-Athletes.

  • CAREER NETWORKING - Responsible for development and implementation of all career network programming for members of the Association. Work in partnership with Texas A&M Athletics Student Athlete Engagement Team 12th Man Foundation and individual sports to plan the growth and accessibility of career networking services for current and former student athletes. Ensure accurate and complete Career Networking database records; contact, biographical and career information of former student athletes via surveys, correspondence, JobBoard website, etc.

  • ADMINISTRATIVE - Supports daily functions of the Lettermen’s Association offices including communication with membership. Supervise all interns, staff and volunteers

  • COMPLIANCE - Maintains continual and thorough familiarity with all applicable NCAA, conference and university rules and regulations. Establishes and ensures communication and enforcement of rules and regulations for all staff members, members (current and prospective) and volunteers supervised. Performs other duties as assigned.
