The Center for Geospatial Analysis (CGA) is the comprehensive resource for William & Mary students, faculty, staff and community partners interested in the ever evolving field of geospatial technologies. Our mission is to provide access to geospatial technologies and the expertise to support learning and research using these powerful analytic mapping tools. The CGA fosters teaching, research, and public service as an integral part of education linked through programs designed to preserve, transmit and expand knowledge of geospatial technologies [e.g. geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing technologies (RS), global positioning systems (GPS), and small unmanned aerial systems (sUAS or drones)].
Position Summary
The Center for Geospatial Analysis (CGA) at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, invites applications for a 2-year, non-tenure track Assistant Teaching Professor, instructional position that will begin August 10, 2024. This appointment has a service component commensurate with rank. This appointment may be renewable contingent upon department/program needs, availability of funds, and performance review.
We seek an individual with expertise in Digital Humanities or Social Sciences with a geospatial technology focus. In addition to contributing to the teaching of existing courses, the applicant will develop an advanced topics in GIS course for one or more of the following areas: digital humanities, social justice, medical & economic equity. In addition to W&M’s technologically enabled teaching spaces, the CGA has: a dedicated teaching space with a 14-person state of the art computer lab, an adjacent instructional & research support center; additional staffing and Teaching Assistants. The successful applicant will be expected to be an effective teacher and will have a [3-3] teaching load where each lecture course is typically 3 credit hours.
Required Qualifications
A Master’s degree is required or equivalent professional experience. Proficiency in Esri GIS products (e.g. ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online) is also required.
Preferred Qualifications
A Ph.D. or ABD is preferred at the time appointment begins (August 10, 2024). Previous teaching experience is preferred. Experience with open-source software and programming languages (e.g., R or Python is preferred.
