Associate Vice President of Community Engagement

The Associate Vice President of Community Engagement will play a pivotal role in enhancing Barry University's reputation and fostering meaningful connections with its donors, alumni, and the broader community stakeholders. This individual will be responsible for overseeing the strategic planning and execution of various communication initiatives, signature events, and community engagement efforts aimed at promoting the university's mission, vision, and philanthropic goals that maximize the success of the University’s fundraising efforts. Additionally, this role will be responsible for the strategic direction of development goals, alumni and donor participation, engagement, and oversee data integrity of the CRM. Aligning process and duties to ensure proper tracking and reporting to the advancement committee will be a major priority for this role.

1.   Alumni Magazine Oversight:

  • Curate alumni stories and content to publish one magazine annually.

Ensure that the quality and relevance of content align with university goals and values.

2.   Signature Events Management:

  • Spearheading strategic planning initiatives to align communication efforts, signature events, and community engagement activities with Barry University's mission, vision, and philanthropic goals.
  • Overseeing the development and execution of comprehensive communication strategies that effectively promote the university's fundraising initiatives.
  • Coordinate logistics and ensure seamless execution of events to enhance university visibility and donor engagement.
  • Plan and oversee signature events for the university President, involving high-level donors and prominent alumni in collaboration with the Alumni and Donor Relations AVP.
  • Collaborating with internal and external partners to identify opportunities for community engagement and partnership-building that support the university's mission and enhance its visibility.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of community engagement efforts, utilizing data and feedback to inform future strategies and maximize fundraising success.
  • Providing leadership and guidance to staff members involved in community engagement initiatives, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.

3.   Annual Impact and Stewardship Report

  • Develop and produce the annual Impact Report for university endowment donors.
  • Collaborate with Alumni and Donor Relations team assuring that all donors are effectively cultivated, solicited, and stewarded.

4.    Annual Giving Function Oversight:

  • Develop crowdfunding appeals and manage Barry University's Giving Day programs.
  • Strategize and implement initiatives to enhance annual giving efforts and donor participation.
  • Manage campaigns such as Direct mail, legacy, eblast, and alumni newsletters.
  • Continuously conduct data analysis to ensure meeting objectives and growth of the program.
  • Responsible for securing three million in philanthropic support annually. 

5.   Assist VP as Deputy Manager of Advancement and Communication Strategy:

  • Maintain a calendar of communication and engagement.
  • Collaborate with the Advancement Services AVP to execute communication via the CRM or Almabase.

6.   Community Outreach and Engagement Management:

  • Advance the institution’s overarching community engagement agenda.
  • Develop, direct, and manage programs and services designed to create a cohesive university infrastructure that supports mutually beneficial campus-community partnerships with a special emphasis on local, state, and national organizations.
  • Serve as the external designee in matters related to community engagement.
  • Identify opportunities for collaboration to enhance the university's reputation and impact.

7.   Team Engagement:

  • Build strong relationships with internal staff, departments and vendors associated with Barry University to work closely and bring forth better synergy in the planification of all events aforementioned
  • Defines clear outcomes for the team, identifies performance measurements, and follows a regular review and evaluation process to support staff success foster a high-performing learning culture by providing guidance, support, and mentorship to team members.

8.   Supervision and Leadership:

  • Provides leadership and direction to gift officers in the design and execution of annual and major gift solicitation planning, and the cultivation of foundations and corporate relationships.
  • Provides leadership and support to the Director of Community Engagement, supervising the creation and production of all Advancement materials including traditional and digital advertising, social media, direct mailings, and other brand functions to help increase and motivate and grow our alumni and donor base.
  • Supervise the Directors of Development to ensure the achievement of their fundraising objectives, including targets for donor visits, proposal submissions, and overall fundraising goals.

Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree in marketing, Business or Communications preferred.

Previous experience presenting to stakeholders required. Experience leveraging data to make informed strategic designs.
