Description of primary duties and responsibilities:
Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:

Fayetteville State University’s Office of Strategic Communications (OSC) is housed within the Office of the Chancellor. The OSC unit includes media relations, marketing, publications, and digital media. The OSC Unit is charged with planning, creating, and implementing communication strategies to engage internal and external audiences include prospective students, current students, parents of prospective and current students, faculty and staff, donors, partners, decision-makers, and the media. The purpose of the engagement is to increase enrollment, retention, and graduation rates, and to increase partnerships, engagement, donations and special contributions, per FSU’s strategic plan.

Primary Purpose of the Position:

The Associate Vice Chancellor for Strategic Communications is responsible for overall communications, media strategies, marketing, and branding for the University. The Associate Vice Chancellor for Strategic Communications serves as one of the University’s spokespersons and may serve on the University’s leadership team. The AVC for Strategic Communications represents and promotes the University, increasing its visibility and supporting its mission, vision, and strategic goals. The AVC for Strategic Communications leads the development and implementation of the University’s strategic communications plan, brand vision, implementation, and all PR-related and digital campaigns that attract and promote the University, students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, and partners. This department will serve as the central office for communications and marketing and will oversee the University’s Communications and Marketing Council. In addition to leading the University’s central team of marketing and communications professionals, the AVC for Strategic Communications provides strategic direction and coordinates marketing and communications produced by other academic and administrative units. The AVC for Strategic Communications will advise and provide strategy to the Chancellor and key leaders for media-related events and during crisis situations. The AVC or her/his designee will serve as the University’s Public Information Officer on the Emergency Operations Management team. This role is responsible for budget management for the unit, contracts, and hiring.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements:
A bachelor’s degree and 8-10 years or more of experience in the communications, marketing or a related field.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:
Preferred Qualifications:
A master’s degree and 7 years or more of experience in the communications, marketing, or a related field. Bachelor’s or master’s degree in journalism, communications or business.
