The Associate University Architect will assist with managing and providing oversight of the University of Houston's campus master plans, design guidelines, capital and minor project programming renewal, deferred maintenance projects and other campus development efforts.

  • Assist with providing oversight/development of the Campus Master Plan, Campus Design Guidelines, Master Specifications and Signage Standards.
  • Provide guidance and, if requested, represent the Facilities Planning Department at select campus committee or department meetings.
  • Assure that appropriate plans are in place for the campus, including but not limited to the Campus Master Plan, Storm Water Management Master Plan, and associated master plans for sustainability, utilities, landscaping, environmental management, wayfinding, bicycle and pedestrian pathways, rehabilitation and renewal programs and other University development priorities as appropriate for the University of Houston System.
  • Act as an advisor in the planning of the University's physical environment.
  • Assist with comprehensive pre-project planning for Capital Projects to define requirements and provide guidance for: project goals and objectives; project scope; site; architectural and landscape design guidelines; sustainability considerations; project concept; project schedule including Campus and System business plan and other submittal and review requirements; project budget including opinion of probable cost, expenditure timeline and funding sources.
  • Participate in design reviews for capital and non-capital projects to confirm compliance with the Campus Master Plan, Campus Design Guidelines and Master Specifications.
  • Conduct studies and assessments as necessary to support facility planning initiatives.
  • Participate in design architect and contractor selection processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

     

    Bachelors and 3 years experience

    Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Preferred: Knowledge of the architectural discipline is normally obtained through a formal B.Arch degree or M.Arch degree from an accredited college or university. Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience. 

    Preferred: Experience in planning new higher education buildings, campus or urban design, architectural design and documentation. Experience working with campus planning at a higher education institution or similar campus environment. Requires professional licensing certification or registration directly related to the job, as specified on the job posting details. Preferred: Registered professional Architect in the State of Texas, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire. LEED Accredited professional or ability to obtain with six (6) months of hire.
