    Position description

    Associate Specialist

The individual hired will be working jointly in the van ‘t Veer and Rosenbluth labs in the Breast Oncology Program at UCSF on related projects in the field of therapeutic resistance in breast cancer. The goal of our research is to develop new therapeutic strategies for breast cancer, including identifying new drug targets for aggressive or resistant breast cancer subtypes. By leveraging large-scale clinical trial data while simultaneously growing normal and malignant breast tissues from clinical trial participants in 3D culture, we can identify and target the cells that form resistant breast cancers and cause them to spread. With training and supervision provided, the specialist will be involved in generating and maintaining cultures from primary tissues, performing compound testing in single culture and co-culture conditions, genetic manipulation of the cultures, and both bulk and single-cell molecular analyses. In addition, they will perform computational analyses and modeling using multi-tiered datasets with molecular, clinical, and patient outcome data. The ideal candidate will be excited about science, its clinical implementation and about contributing to the development and organization of a joint research program.
