The Department of Community Health Services and Rehabilitation Science at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a full-time (non-tenure) Associate Professor (12-month appointment) to serve as a key member of the Doctor of Chiropractic faculty.  This position will also serve as the Associate Director of Clinical Education.

Responsibilities will include providing students with an unparalleled clinical education experience that will prepare them to integrate into the complex US healthcare delivery system; identifying, recruiting, and maintaining a geographically diverse network of chiropractors to deliver clinical education; overseeing the administration, implementation, and evaluation of the clinical education program.

Position Details

·       The Associate Director of Clinical Education (CE) reports to and works closely with the Director to provide students with an unparalleled clinical education experience that will prepare them to integrate into the complex U.S. healthcare delivery system. 

·       The Associate Director  guides, supervises, and evaluates all Clinical Instructors within the Doctor of Chiropractic Program.

·       The Associate Director of Clinical Education reports to and works closely with the Director and other Associate Directors to ensure Council on Chiropractic Education (CCE) accreditation standards are met or exceeded.

·       The Associate Director of Clinical Education works with the Director to develop new and maintain existing relationships with clinical sites that provide clinical training opportunities for students in the Doctor of Chiropractic Program.

 

Position Duties

·       Identify, recruit, credential, and maintain a geographically diverse network of chiropractors to deliver clinical education within the Doctor of Chiropractic Program. 

·       Apply and model the principles of Learning Health Systems to advance evidence-based practices, patient safety, clinical outcomes, and the affordability of care.

·       Champion the role of chiropractic, as well as the program’s clinical instructors and trainees, in delivering high-quality care and services in a value-based payment environment. 

·       Establish relationships with UPMC and other regional healthcare delivery systems, the Pittsburgh VA healthcare system, Federally Qualified Health Centers, the UPMC Health Plan, and other payers, as well as community-based chiropractic clinics to develop a robust clinical education network.

·       Collaborate with the Director and other Associate Directors in the overall planning, development, assessment, and evaluation of the curriculum during the clinical phase of the program following best practices and accreditation standards.  

·       Assist the Director and other Associate Directors in establishing, refining, and implementing program policies and procedures consistent with university and accreditation standards, including those necessary for ongoing programmatic assessments through goal determination, curriculum development, and outcome assessment.

·       Assess and select potential clinical education sites. 

·       Train and regularly conduct performance evaluations of clinical instructors.

·       Oversee and evaluate students during their clinical education experiences.

·       Establish and oversee the implementation of student remediation plans as necessary.

·       Develop standardized data collection instruments, processes, and systems to track and measure educational and clinical outcomes.

·       Develop and maintain systems to ensure comparability across geographically distributed clinical training sites.

·       Assume part-time teaching responsibilities within the program.

·       Develop and implement a health services and implementation science research agenda.

Requisite Qualifications

Minimum Educational Requirements

·       Doctor of Chiropractic from an accredited chiropractic institution.

·       Master's Degree or higher (MS or PhD) in research methods.

Academic Experience 

·       Minimum of 5 years as a faculty member in an R1 university healthcare professional doctoral program.

·       Minimum of 3 years teaching experience as lead instructor in a healthcare professional doctoral program.

·       An established record of federally funded research as a principal or co-investigator.

·       An established history of peer-reviewed publications.

Work Experience 

·       Experience with developing, credentialing, and maintaining high-performing chiropractic provider networks across geographically diverse locations.

·       Demonstrated leadership experience in managing healthcare professionals.

·       Knowledge of clinical quality improvement methodology and program development.

·       Clinical experience in interprofessional settings.

Experience-Teaching:  The candidate will demonstrate successful experience and/or a strong motivation for excellence in classroom, clinical, and simulation/laboratory instruction and teaching.

 

Experience-Service: The candidate will demonstrate successful academic collaboration and/or a strong motivation for such collaboration and building and maintaining excellence in professional development and clinical education in a research-intensive department, school, and university.
