Job Description

The University of Missouri (MU) in Columbia, Missouri and the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center (DDPSC) in St. Louis, Missouri seek applications and nominations for a joint faculty position in plant biology. We are seeking a scientist who will address leading-edge research questions in plant biology that complement and strengthen existing research programs at both institutions. A record of excellence in possessing extramurally-funded grants, and in pursuing innovative, collaborative research using creative approaches in any area of science that can be applied to plants is required. The appointed individual will be a tenured faculty member in one or more departments/divisions at MU and an Associate/Full Member and Principal Investigator at DDPSC, and will contribute to undergraduate and/or graduate teaching programs. The new faculty member will be located on the MU campus, and will be part of a cluster of four joint hires, with two individuals located at each institution.

The goals of this unique partnership are to address global challenges in plant biology, to facilitate fundamental scientific discoveries, and to enable the translation of these discoveries into solutions for agriculture. This alliance represents an exceptional opportunity to collaborate with the vibrant plant research programs at both locations and to enhance coordinated, inter-institutional efforts in plant biology. Additionally, the candidate will have access to a new, state-of-the-art $28 million plant growth facility on the MU campus.

The successful candidate will be a member of the MU Interdisciplinary Plant Group (IPG), a world-renowned group of researchers from seven departments/units with interests in plant biology, and a Principal Investigator at the Danforth Center. Research strengths of the IPG and Danforth Center include plant responses to a changing environment, genetics and genomics, root biology, as well as plant metabolism, physiology, and defense mechanisms.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A PhD in Plant Sciences or a related discipline.

Candidates will be evaluated on the following factors

  • A track record of external research funding, particularly from federal agencies. Innovative and collaborative research accomplishments using creative approaches in any area of science that can be applied to plants.
