Position Summary:

 


The Office of the Ombuds is an alternate channel for confidential, impartial, and informal dispute resolution services for the UC Irvine campus and medical center.


 


Position provides impartial, informal, independent and confidential conflict resolution services on cases of moderate complexity. Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced Ombuds professional with a full understanding of industry practices and campus policies and procedures; resolves a wide range of issues. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

$73,900.00 - $88,850.00 (Annual Salary) Expected Pay Range within the Full Salary Range $73,900.00 - $133,700.00 (Annual Salary)

Required:
 
  • Minimum one year as a practicing organizational Ombuds (preferably in a large complex institution), and/or experience as a dispute resolution practitioner or mediator.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Thorough understanding of conflict resolution and mediation techniques and principles. 
  • Full understanding of the role of the Ombuds Office and Ombuds Office professionals. Strong conflict resolution and mediation skills. 
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills to deal effectively with a broad and diverse range of people in a complex, multi-layered organization, including effective listening, discernment, empathy and cultural sensitivity skills. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including skill in determining root causes of problems and skill in offering options for resolving conflict. 
  • Ability to work independently and follow-through on assignments and projects with minimal supervision. 
  • Ability to perform efficiently and effectively with frequent interruptions, fluctuating workloads and distractions, and to prioritize tasks and assignments recognizing that all cases have equal merit and deserve appropriate time and attention.


 


Preferred:
 
  • Advanced Degree in relevant field (dispute resolution, counseling, communications, law, etc.)
  • CO-OP (Certified Organizational Ombuds Practitioner)
  • Thorough knowledge of the campus, its resources, infrastructure, policies and procedures. 
  • Full knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations and / or policies and procedures. 
  • Skill to collect, organize and analyze relevant statistical data. Strong presentation skills.
     

Special Conditions Required:
