Job Description Summary:

Reporting to the Head Coach, Women’s Basketball, the Associate Head Coach, Women’s Basketball will support the Women’s Basketball program by performing the following duties:
  • Serve as the deputy coach at all times, including times when the head coach is absent. The Head Coach, Women’s Basketball will rely on the Associate Head Coach, Women’s Basketball to run practices, design and implement plays, and lead all position group coaches in their absence.
  • Responsible for assisting the Head Coach, Women’s Basketball with the management and administration of all activities related to women’s basketball, including direct supervision of on- and off-campus recruiting, training, and coaching.
  • Shares responsibility with the Head Coach, Women’s Basketball in establishing/enforcing team rules, and community service efforts.
  • Represents the Head Coach, Women’s Basketball at some meetings, fundraising functions, and alumni events.
  • Serves as mentor to assistant coaches and other support staff members.
  • Oversee all scouts of opponents, including the management of scheduling scouting duties for non-conference and in-conference competitions. Will provide oversight of other assistant coaches as they develop their scouting skills, including film breakdown, scouting note preparation, and team presentations.

The position is based at GW’s Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, DC but will require significant domestic travel for games and events. The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 3 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 1 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Successful coaching or administrative experience at collegiate level.
  • Display the highest of ethical standards and a demonstrated ability to recruit highly qualified student-athletes.
  •  Collegiate playing experience in basketball is desirable, but not necessary. 
  • Experience in a highly competitive, high stress collegiate, professional, or Olympic level basketball is desirable.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
Typical Hiring Range Commensurate with Experience.
