Associate Graphic Designer and Social Media Specialist

Job Summary

 

The communications specialist in the Department of Human Development and Family Science (HDFS) is responsible for department level communications and marketing efforts, including social media, departmental web page, print and digital marketing, newsletters, photography, videography, and other projects as needed. In this role, you will develop content to promote the research, teaching, and accomplishments of the faculty, staff, and students while providing advice and leadership in initiating and developing new communications and marketing efforts within the department. In addition, you will collaborate with the College of Health and Human Sciences (HHS) communications team to promote the department and ensure internal and external communications align with HHS and Purdue university's brand. 


Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, marketing, communications, publications, visual communication design or closely related field.
  • One year of experience in marketing, content creation, and social media communications.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.
  • Experience using different social media platforms and project management skills in releasing predetermined stories.
  • Three years graphic design experience with demonstrated proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud design applications, to include InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite applications.
  • Understanding of how to create ADA compliant documents.
  • Experience developing, creating, and maintaining web pages/sites, from conception to finished product.
  • Experience creating Delivra email marketing content.
  • Experience in collegial work with content experts.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Strong editing and proofreading skills.
  • Creative self-starter, able to work independently to organize, prioritize, and manage tasks.
  • The qualified individual must be an active learner, listener, and able to adapt to new technology and communication platforms.

 

Preferred: 

  • Experience within higher education, familiarity with early childhood programs, and experience with military contexts.
  • Familiarity with the Purdue Brand and able to apply Purdue branding to all departmental communications.
  • Superior attention to detail.
  • Video production and editing skills
