Position Focus:

The Associate Director of Events at Yale Center for Customer Insights (YCCI) at the Yale School of Management (SOM) will lead the marketing, content management, and event planning for events for two academic centers:  The Yale Center for Customer Insights (YCCI) and its newly formed sister initiative, the Yale Program on Stakeholder Innovation and Management (Y-SIM). This position reports to the YCCI Executive Director. 

Event management & operations: Direct high-profile, large-scale, and multifaceted events, workshops, advisory board meetings and webinars featuring distinguished speakers and scholars with flawless execution. This includes: Working to develop and manage a calendar of events across the two centers. Gaining alignment with internal stakeholders on event goals, timelines, marketing cadence and budget. Leading internal status of progress-tracking across projects and centers, including providing updates to leadership on event registration. Collaborating with YCCI’s Sr. Assoc. Director of Digital Marketing to develop a compelling  marketing, sales and/or sponsorship strategy as needed for each event. Improve and systematize documented operating processes and administrative protocols of the department and work to ensure compliance with school and university policies and to ensure consistent learning and improvement. Own event operations from start to finish, including travel booking and reimbursements, catering, and management of third-party vendors, and Zoom coordination for online events/webinars.

Partner relations and experience: Manage speaker, V.I.P and client relations. Develop systems to consistently improve efficiency, innovation, and customer satisfaction. Manage support staff and vendors to assure the highest quality experiences. Oversee event & workshop attendee experience, including identifying and developing systems and processes for sharing pertinent information, pre-reads, or logistics. Build and maintain strong internal and external partnerships to enhance the quality and impact of Center events, activities, and relationships.

Budget management: In coordination with Center leadership, develop and monitor budgets for events.

Digital Marketing & content management:  Oversee the development and implementation of compelling digital content from high-profile events. Oversee work of freelancers, interns and agencies who develop content for YCCI. Identify and vet new potential agencies and freelancers for content creation. Collaborate with center leadership to help provide an editorial perspective that can enhance relevance for the Center’s audiences online. Other projects as assigned.

Essential Duties

1. Manages and leads research on various federal rules and regulations as well as University policies and procedures to resolve problems and determine the best course of action for the functional area. 2. Recommends course of action to higher authority for the handling and disposition of problems related to the functional area. 3. Counsels faculty, students and staff on issues related to administrative operations of the University function and areas of concern for the function. 4. Manages statistical and analytical information regarding office activities and areas of operational and administrative concern for the function. 5. Leads in long-range planning for the office activities of a specific functional area. 6. Interprets and administers various University and federal policies and regulations. 7. Disseminates accurate and up-to-date information regarding areas of concern. 8. Formulates and establishes policies regarding area’s function. 9. Manages a staff of exempt and non-exempt employees. 10. May perform other duties as assigned.


Required Education and Experience

Minimum requirement of Bachelor’s Degree in related field and three years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.


Required Skill/Ability 1:

Demonstrated ability in the oversight and management of events, marketing or PR campaigns. Superior oral and written communication skills.


Required Skill/Ability 2:

Excellent attention to detail. Proven organizational skills, including the ability to organize and manage multiple projects and processes simultaneously, experience tracking multi-stage projects or processes to completion.


Required Skill/Ability 3:

Superior interpersonal skills to interact effectively and represent the school well with participants, faculty, students, administrators, and corporate contacts. A leader with a positive and can-do attitude who supports the mission of the center.


Required Skill/Ability 4:

Excellent problem solving and conflict resolution skills.


Required Skill/Ability 5:

Proficiency with Windows and Microsoft products. Experience with content management system. Proven commitment to diversity and inclusion, equity, and excellence. 


Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Master’s degree. Five years of experience in related field.
