Job Description

The University of New Orleans' Student Support Services (SSS) is a cornerstone for fostering academic achievement. As part of a federally funded initiative (TRIO Program), the SSS program delivers academic and non-academic support at no cost to those eligible undergraduate UNO students who join. Eligibility is determined by federal income guidelines, first-generation college status, or documented disabilities. Our aim is to equip SSS students with the necessary tools to succeed.

The Associate Director in Student Support Services is responsible for the following:

  • Provide for the effective coordination of the day-to-day activities of Student Support Services (SSS) working at the behest of the Project Director to assure that all activities of the other staff are conducted in a timely manner (10%).

  • Coordinate, implement and supervise all non-academic activities of the SSS program; i.e. counseling sessions, cultural activity component, workshops, and other special projects (15%).

  • Assist with coordination and implementation of staff development and training (5%).

  • Provide direct supervision to Graduate Student Workers, Interns and Peer Advisors (5%).

  • Select, recruit, train and supervise peer advisors (10%).

  • Monitor computer assisted database program for collection of information and progress on student performance (10%).

  • Responsible for production of database management component of U.S. Department of Education annual performance report and assist with other components of report (5%).

  • Develop and maintain technological components including website, surveys instruments, program email account and equipment monitoring/tracking (5%).

  • Assist in the recruitment and selection of prospective SSS students (5%).

  • Provide counseling services to SSS students; conduct counseling sessions, review attendance and class performance and maintain up-to-date records in student files (15%).

  • Teach UNIV 1001 (University Success) and/or ACOR 1006 (Academic Orientation – Career Exploration) courses (5%).

  •  Assist with research, reading, editing, evaluation and preparation for proposed grants, and internal and external reports (5%).

  •  Perform other duties as assigned by the Director (5%).


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Master’s degree in Counselor Education, Education Administration, Sociology, or closely related field.

  • Three years experience in counseling, teaching, leadership, and team development skills dealing with college students (preferably low-income first generation students).

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in working in TRIO programs.

  • Computer competency in the use of MS Office Suite, specifically ACCESS, broad knowledge of latest educational software applications.  Workday, Peoplesoft, and Blumen experience a plus.


SALARY:
  • $50,000 Annually
