Preferred Qualifications
Experience editing or writing for a magazine is preferred.
Job Description Summary
The University of South Alabama’s department of Marketing and Communications is seeking to hire an Associate Director, Strategic Communications – University Editor/Writer. Interested candidates should apply to be considered.

Essential Functions


These are the job duties required of the position.


Essential Functions
  • Works collaboratively and independently to produce and edit content that is engaging and accurate.
  • Fosters a greater connection and improved user experience among diverse target audiences.
  • Aligns with brand guidelines on style, quality, and voice.
  • Serves as part of a tam tasked with telling authentic and compelling stories that strengthen the University and advance its mission.
  • Works with colleagues within the Office of Marketing and Communications, and across the University, on writing, editing, and distributing content that supports strategic objectives, with an emphasis on content for USA News, South Magazine, marketing collateral and special initiatives.
  • Assists in the development, creation, and publication of University-wide print and digital publications, including collaborating with stakeholders in the production of South Magazine, the University’s flagship publication.
  • Sits on the South Magazine editorial board.
  • Writes and edits new articles, feature stories and profiles for the magazine.
  • Works with external vendors including photographers.
  • Writes and edits news and feature stories, generates headlines, and reviews and edits photography for the Universities website.
  • Assists in writing and editing for the University’s annual report.
  • Edits and writes content for video scripts, news releases, speeches, advertising and marketing collateral.
  • Regular and prompt attendance.
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required.
  • Related duties as required.
