Job Summary:

Reporting to the Executive Director of the Center for Engaged Pedagogy (CEP), the Associate Director (STEM) will support all aspects of the Center’s operations, including the promotion and support of inclusive and innovative teaching, student learning, and community building among faculty, staff, and students. In particular, the CEP seeks an Associate Director who has expertise in STEM pedagogies or the science of learning to advance the CEP’s practice of supporting inclusive pedagogy. This individual will draw from their own experiences teaching in a STEM discipline and researching STEM or science pedagogy to facilitate consultations and develop resources and programming for the campus community. Other responsibilities include: collaborating with CEP staff and various campus partners on teaching support; offering faculty consultations on course design, teaching strategies, curriculum, and accessibility; and supporting the Center and larger campus community in educational research (e.g., grant projects) and/or the scholarship of teaching and learning, with a particular emphasis in the sciences. An academic affiliation with a relevant department or program is negotiable, as is the possibility of teaching one full-semester course per year on a topic related to the Associate Director’s scholarship.

Job Description:

Duties & Responsibilities:

The Associate Director will contribute to the mission and vision of the Center for Engaged Pedagogy by:

Design and facilitate faculty, student, and staff workshops and programming, with an emphasis on, but not limited to, the principles of STEM teaching and learning. Grow and maintain relationships with faculty in order to promote interdisciplinary learning communities. Consult with individual instructors on STEM teaching and learning. Build partnerships with individual instructors on STEM teaching and learning. Develop and implement new programs and pedagogy initiatives. Contribute to teaching and learning resources for the College. Manage a team of student interns (i.e., hold regular student intern team meetings, approve hours in Workday, support ongoing professional development, collaborate with CEP Graduate Assistants to guide the team in the development of learning resources). Maintain knowledge of teaching and learning scholarship, particularly in area of specialization (STEM pedagogy). Provide organizational and administrative support for the CEP’s activities. Gather and interpret data from research and assessment efforts to provide accurate and insightful strategic analysis to support academic excellence and support. In collaboration with the Executive Director, prepare reports and presentations for various audiences including the Provost, chairs, faulty and senior administrators.

Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 

  • Firm understanding of teaching and learning principles, with a specialization in STEM pedagogy or the science of learning.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with faculty, students and other constituents.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments, take initiative, work independently with limited supervision, and to handle multiple complex tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently and to handle multiple complex tasks simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated experience with design and development of instructional materials.
  • Ability to plan, lead and execute projects.
  • Demonstrated experience creating strategic partnerships across departments and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated initiative in developing new projects and programs.
  • Ability to foster a collaborative work environment and initiate campus partnerships.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising or mentoring students in research or employment settings.
  • Demonstrated knowledge on best practices in teaching and learning.
  • Demonstrated experience of promoting academic inclusion and accessibility.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of assessment and evaluation methods for student learning and teaching practices.

Qualifications:

  • PhD or EdD in a STEM or sciences discipline or in education.
  • Experience teaching at the college level.
  • Excellent interpersonal, collaborative and communication skills.
  • Experience with project management.
  • Experience facilitating educational development or co-curricular programming for faculty, students, or staff.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Fluency with STEM pedagogy or scholarship on the science of learning.
  • Experience conducting or supporting educational research or learning science activities.
  • Contributor to or producer of scholarship in a relevant field.
  • Experience mentoring or supervising students.
  • Experience working in a Teaching and Learning Center.

Salary Range:

$90,000 - $95,000

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
