Job Duties:


The main focus areas for this position include developing a comprehensive training program for the RAs and GAs; professional staff supervision of one Assistant Director (50% of the time), two-four Residence Hall Coordinators, and indirect supervision of Neighborhood Service Offices; all staffing aspects/materials of RA/GA positions; assist with LLC management; publishes articles, coordinates evaluative process for all RAs and GAs; and coordinates professional staff hiring for the Residence Hall Coordinators.
This position is designated as a mandatory reporting position. This position will exercise complex independent problem solving, significant independent discretion, and direct oversight along with the coordination of various department-wide policies, procedure, and operations. Additionally, this position will execute delicate, sophisticated, and complex decision-making.
TRAINING (35%)
The Associate Director develops a comprehensive training program for 145 Resident Advisors (RAs) and three Residence Life Senior Resident Advisors (Sr. RA's). This includes specific training for new and returning RAs as well as for staff hired throughout the course of the year. The Associate Director establishes goals and expected results for all training components and evaluates each of these goals on an on-going basis
.
Specifically, the Associate Director coordinates RA/Sr. RA year-round training including August and January training, in-hall staff training, all in-service training sessions, and oversight of hall staff retreats. The Associate Director compiles and submits monthly, semester, and yearly reports for RA in-services, and other evaluative reports as directed. The Associate Director serves as a training consultant for the Residence Hall Coordinator staff and trains the Residence Hall Coordinators on staffing policies and procedures. The Associate Director provides training for the RA who serves at the Coastal Campus.
SUPERVISION (33%)
The Associate Director serves as the 50% direct supervisor for the Assistant Director for Recruitment, Leadership, Programming, and Projects, 2-4 professional staff members, student staff members, and other staff as assigned. The Associate Director is responsible for supervision, mentorship, training, and evaluation of these staff members.
The Associate Director keeps informed and remains knowledgeable of all hall emergency, urgent, or crisis situations and provides high-level coordination of hall staff or department responses. This position requires the exercise of delicate, sophisticated, and complex decision-making.
STAFFING/PERSONNEL (21%)
The Associate Director organizes, compiles, and completes administrative personnel paperwork and staff manuals, and shares in crisis duty coverage responsibilities. The Associate Director updates the Residence Life policies and procedures in the manual on an annual basis. The Associate Director ensures that all staffing policies and documents are accurate, clear, and up to date. The Associate Director prepares and distributes the RA and Sr. RA Contracts and oversees compilation of all RA/Sr. RA personnel and payroll paperwork as well as personnel databases. The Associate Director notifies all offices of importance when a new staff member is hired or if one resigns/is terminated. This position also conducts exit interviews for student staff members who leave the position. The Associate Director ensures all special contract addenda are signed as necessary (i.e.: Jarvis Leadership, Special Break Duty) and extra compensation is given to those who are to receive it. The Associate Director is responsible for working with Residence Hall Coordinators to staff academic year halls during vacation breaks and coordinates vacation break duty coverage, notification to other offices, and payroll. The Associate Director solicits RA involvement on all Campus Living teams, which include but are not limited to Social Justice Education, RA Education and Development, RA Recruitment and Selection, and Academic Initiatives. The Associate Director communicates expectations to Residence Hall Coordinators regarding these areas above and follows up in writing as needed with both Residence Hall Coordinators and the Director of Residence Life.
The Associate Director administers comprehensive Resident Advisor and Graduate Assistant performance evaluation processes. The Associate Director establishes a time frame including form revisions and process computerization for resident evaluations of RAs on an annual basis. The Associate Director analyzes evaluation information on a campus-wide basis to determine training programs which are needed.
The Associate Director coordinates all Human Resources aspects of Residence Life professional staff hiring and serves as Co-Chair of the Coordinator Screening Committee each year. This position coordinates and virtually attends The Placement Exchange an on annual basis.
ADMINISTRATION (11%)
The Associate Director serves on the RA Education and Development Team, Campus Living's Student Appreciation Celebration Team, Division of Student Life teams and university- wide committees as assigned or pursued upon consultation with the Director of Residence Life.
The Associate Director coordinates the publication of articles in Residence Life, University, or other related blog sites promoting Campus Living and Residence Life.

-Masters degree in College Student Personnel or related field.
-4 years of related experience in higher education administration
-Supervision experience of professional staff members
