Responsibilities:

The Associate Director of Annual Giving is responsible for growing USF’s base of committed donors by retaining and upgrading existing donors, acquiring new donors, delivering positive and consistent donor engagement, and overseeing annual giving operations in support of this work.

The Associate Director leads the Annual Giving team’s direct marketing program and manages one direct report, the Assistant Director of Digital Fundraising, with the potential to manage additional staff in the future. Together, they are charged with implementing annual giving direct marketing campaigns, including USF’s Giving Day Day of the Dons), GivingTuesday, and more.

In partnership with the Senior Director and colleagues, they will help develop and execute multi-year strategies to grow the donor base. They will proactively manage their fundraising programs to build a robust donor pipeline while delivering a high-quality donor experience to delight USF’s supporters. In pursuit of fundraising targets, the Associate Director will develop and calendar a detailed work plan schedule; coordinate and partner with key stakeholders; execute an array of fundraising activities; implement best practices while trying new techniques; and analyze the effectiveness of fundraising programs.

Specific responsibilities of the role include:

  • Provide leadership and management of annual giving direct marketing program to acquire and retain participation-level (<$1,000) and mid-level donors ($1,000-$9,999) and revenue ($2.2 million in FY23).

  • Manage the Assistant Director of Digital Fundraising and potentially additional direct reports in the future. Carry out performance management cycles, deliver regular feedback, serve as a coach, and offer opportunities for growth.

  • Grow donor lifetime value and annual revenue by delivering compelling and effective annual giving campaigns.

  • In partnership with the Annual Giving team and other colleagues, collaborate and execute a university-wide solicitation plan consisting of giving days, direct mail, social ads, email, and other digital efforts.

  • Collaborate with the Development Communications team and school/unit fundraisers to execute solicitations for targeted audiences.

  • Work with multiple internal constituents; identify and proactively manage internal and external third-party vendors.

  • Oversee Annual Giving content creation for all marketing channels using persuasive and creative writing to encourage current and prospective donors to give.

  • Closely manage marketing campaign costs and performance.

  • Partner with the Senior Director of Annual Giving and other development and campus partners to coordinate and direct aspects of special University fundraising programs including Giving Tuesday and the Day of the Dons, the university’s day of giving.

  • Lead efforts to create and implement an aggressive retention program, including expanding our recurring giving strategy and elevating our efforts to elevate and expand our loyalty-giving society.

  • Analyze and provide regular reports to the Senior Director of Annual Giving and Associate Vice President for Annual Giving & Operations on program and campaign performance of direct marketing appeals. 

  • Participate in Development Division team efforts, including divisional, vertical, and department meetings.

  • Remain current on programs and initiatives at USF.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or relevant experience.

  • Three or more years experience in fundraising or relevant fields, preferably in higher education and/or nonprofit organizations.

  • Demonstrated success in using direct marketing to solicit donations.    

  • Ability to clearly articulate the case for support and fundraising priorities of USF in supporting the university’s mission.

  • Strong communication skills, including prioritizing a collaborative approach to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects at once. 

  • Strong analytical skills and experience with campaign and fundraising performance analysis.

  • Experience utilizing technology tools and social media to enable fundraising.

Salary Range :

The salary range for this position is $80,000/yr - $90,000/yr. Offers will be based on candidate experience and education, as well as equity within the University of San Francisco.
