Job Duties:


The Associate Director of Undergraduate Programs is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Undergraduate Programs Office (UPO) advising efforts, training new staff within the UPO, and providing individual counseling to students on academic matters, such as selection of a concentration, course selection, and academic performance. The Associate Director reports to the Director of Undergraduate Programs within the College of Business (COB).
Essential Functions of the job include:
The Associate Director will Manage Day-to Day Operations: Develops and implements effective training protocols for new advising team members; engages in external scanning to identify new and emerging trends in advising (both technical and otherwise); works with the Directors of Graduate Programs and Cunanan Center for Professional Success to coordinate effective use of graduate assistants; holds monthly meetings with UPO Assistant Directors to discuss upcoming events, concerns, and provide individual coaching, and develop annual coaching plans and evaluations for UPO staff; possess a working knowledge of program offerings within the Center for Student Success and be prepared to assist in the development and implementation of new programs as the needs of the College of Business dictate; partners with the Director to evaluate the effectiveness of student programming, advising materials, policies, and procedures; serve as a representative of the College of Business to the University's Advising Collaborative.
The Associate Director will Oversee Student Advising: Coordinates the academic orientation of new and existing students and supports the university's goals through developing and implementing a student-development approach to academic advising as well as train all COB students on DegreeWorks (or other ECU programs) that empower students to take ownership of their academic plans; makes personal contact with students; provides a positive environment which assists students in their personal and academic growth and development; discusses with and assists students in selecting appropriate courses; provides initial guidance about proper procedures for the completion and processing of all necessary academic forms and use of electronic advising resources; refers students to appropriate university units, learning resources, and personnel; obtains and supplies students with supportive technical information; discusses class progress, goals, and utilization of learning resources, and holds regular meetings with students who are in academic difficulty; maintains organized and current records documenting individual student progress; monitors students identified as academically at risk and participates in the development and implementation of the intervention programs that target students in academic difficulty; aid in the development and implementation of workshops that assist students in taking ownership of their academic success; works collaboratively with University committees and departments and will serve on committees that further the student-collegiate experience. ; in particular she/he will serve on the University Orientation Committee.
Other Responsibilities: The Associate Director serves as the primary contact for escalated student issues finding solutions that serve both the student and the College of Business. The Associate Director participates in professional development opportunities and research conducted by the Center for Student Success and the COB. The normal work schedule of the position is 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Some after-hours and weekend work are required. Candidate serves on College of Business and University committees as appropriate. Some evening and weekend duties and responsibilities accompany this position as directed by the Director of Undergraduate Programs. Some travel may be required.

Minimum Education/Experience:


The Associate Director must possess a graduate degree (MBA, MA, MS) in a closely related discipline (examples include, but are not limited to counseling, adult education, educational leadership, business administration, public administration, psychology, or higher education administration) from an appropriately accredited institution. The Associate Director must have a minimum of five (5) years' experience in academic advising/counseling and program development in an institution of higher education.
