NC State Prevention Services provides case management, education and outreach emphasizing inclusive, developmental, and non-judgmental perspectives for student prevention efforts. Through the lenses of behavioral health, wellness, and sustainability, our professionals cross-collaborate with the campus community to enhance individual and collective well-being, as well as assisting students to gain the necessary resources to remain successful academically and emotionally at NC State.
Essential Job Duties
The Associate Director is required to perform administrative duties, provide CARES coordination to students with an emphasis on high-risk cases, consult with university faculty/staff, and participate in supervision and training. This person will assist in developing, revising, and maintaining policies and procedures to ensure adherence to best practices, and legal and ethical codes. The incumbent will be responsible for coordinating teams and committees, providing direct supervision for permanent staff members and assigned graduate assistants. There is an expectation that the Associate Director will assist in hiring, training, supervising and consulting with all staff, including trainees, as needed.
This staff member serves on the Administrative Team, along with the Director and Assistant Director. The Associate Director will assume supervision of Prevention Services operations in the absence of the Director. Members of the Administrative Team will be expected to submit reports and/or data to the Director as requested and will serve on committees within and outside of Prevention as required.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
  • One full-time, 12 month position with responsibility to assist in all areas of Prevention Services functioning including:
  • CARES clinically-informed case management-
  • Engage in behaviorally and clinically-informed one-on-one assessments with students to identify and mitigate barriers to personal and academic success, including risk and threat assessment toward self and others
  • Provide timely and appropriate referrals to support services within the university and coordinate intervention plans through the use of and collaboration with various university and off-campus resources in order to minimize or resolve student concerns
  • Monitor and track individual cases and student progress to ensure compliance with recommendations, on-going assessment and address new or emerging concerns as they arise, including safety intervention and coordination
  • Lead the University’s NCSU Cares team, a cross-campus support team designed to provide assessment and practical support for students of concern, provide assistance to the University’s Behavioral Assessment Team (BAT), a cross-campus team designed to assess and mitigate potential threats to the campus community
  • Develops and provides comprehensive training, outreach and consultation services to faculty, staff and students and collaborate with other campus offices to ensure coherent integration of messaging and education of the campus community
  • Supports the management of the Maxient database related to student concerns by ensuring accurate documentation of all correspondence, notes, and action items.
  • Ensures the ethical and accurate evaluation and assessment of data collected from and about students of concern, with a focus on developing and upholding best practices
  • Participate in admin rotation for after-hours or weekend emergency response and postvention
  • Directly supervises CARES case managers and related staff (graduate assistants, interns)

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Requires a minimum of a master’s degree in social work, counseling, or psychology from an accredited university
  • Minimum of five years of professional experience and a minimum of two years in a leadership role
Other Required Qualifications
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including both oral and written communication in a variety of settings
  • Demonstrated ability to identify problems and use sound judgment and reasoning to make crucial decisions autonomously
  • Demonstrated experience in providing individualized support for students in crisis or who have been identified as exhibiting concerning or worrisome behaviors
  • Ability to establish collaborative relationships with campus and community partners
  • Demonstrated experience with risk assessment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of case management systems (preferably in a higher education setting), and/or experience working as part of a case management support team
  • Broad knowledge of best practices and current national trends related to higher education case management, minimum of five years post-licensure experience and a minimum of three years of demonstrated administrative and leadership/supervisory experience, preferably in a large university
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with program development and evaluation preferred
  • Demonstrated history of effective collaborations across a complex array of multiple agencies within a university or comparable setting
  • Strong working knowledge of various federal and state laws affecting issues of privacy and confidentiality, disability accommodations and support, and response to sexual violence
Required License(s) or Certification(s)
  • Independently licensed (no need for clinical supervision) in social work, counseling, or psychology in North Carolina or the ability to attain North Carolina independent licensure within six months of hire
Valid NC Driver's License required No
Commercial Driver's License required No
