Join Our Team as the Associate Director for Staff and Labor Relations!
Are you a dynamic, strategic leader ready to shape the future of labor and employee relations in a prestigious university environment? We're seeking an experienced and tenacious individual to join our team as the Associate Director for Staff and Labor Relations. Reporting to the Senior Director of Staff and Labor Relations, this pivotal role will provide strategic direction and leadership for the university's labor relations, employee relations, and human resource policy functions. This position offers the opportunity for career progression within twelve to eighteen months.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Lead in planning and responding to new union campaigns, act as the lead negotiator for collective bargaining agreements, and develop labor and collective bargaining strategies in alignment with university interests.
- Collaboration: Partner with Senior HR and campus leadership to achieve goals aligned with university objectives, fostering inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
- Risk Management: Take appropriate action to limit potential financial and legal liability/risk and reputational impact on the university, collaborating with the Office of General Counsel on labor relations matters.
- Communication Skills: Utilize strong interpersonal, communication, customer service, and analytical skills to effectively convey information to a variety of audiences.
Position Requirements:
- Education and Experience: A Juris Doctor (JD) with 5 or more years of experience in private sector labor relations.
- Commitment to Diversity: Demonstrate commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing, incorporating the perspectives of multiple communities, including communities of color.
- Demonstrated Skills: Proven experience in consulting, contract negotiations, grievance administration, and strategic leadership. In-depth knowledge of labor contracts, personnel policies, and federal labor and employment laws. Possess strategic thinking abilities and strong analytical prowess.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Legal Expertise: First-chair experience negotiating and administering collective bargaining agreements in the private sector.
- Experience with large diverse clients: Previous experience in a university setting is a plus, along with a high level of organization, detail orientation, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
- Leadership Experience: Demonstrated leadership and people management experience, with the ability to lead and manage highly motivated and high-functioning individuals.
