Job Summary 
Provides leadership for the Alumni Association in membership solicitation and tracking, revenue generation and serves as the primary staff liaison to the organization’s geographic based and affinity alumni groups.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Membership – Responsible for the continued development and coordination of an integrated program to cultivate and solicit new and renewing membership in the Alumni Association, as well as the development of a marketing plan for Life Membership in the Association. Establish clear and concise goals and objectives to achieve predetermined membership levels and monitor the budgets needed to accomplish goals and objectives. Work with Executive Director regarding expenditures for solicitations and promotions, ensuring that projects fall within financial guidelines, and coordinating to allow desired results within parameters. Create and manage the direct mail and Web-based membership campaigns, telemarketing efforts and membership benefits program. Develop and refine programs and opportunities to educate current students about the Alumni Association and promote membership following graduation. 
  •  Advertising and Sponsorship – Responsible for analyzing the sponsorship and advertising opportunities within the Association and developing value added partnerships for the organization. Coordinates and oversees all advertising in Alumni Association publications with regard to development, relationship maintenance and growth of participation in the program. Maintain accurate records for advertising and sponsorship partners.
  • Affinity Partner Relationships – Responsible for the successful planning, execution, and management revenue development programs of the Alumni Association in such areas as group insurance, banking partnerships, jewelry, car rental discount programs and merchandise. Cultivates individual and corporate prospects for partnership and affinity marketing. Manages partner relationships with a variety of providers, ensuring the ongoing quality of direct mail, mass marketing and target and segment marketing to the alumni of Southern Miss are consistent with the standards of the Association’s communications. Evaluate the quality of current and potential affinity programs based on the criteria of added value to alumni, revenue potential, quality of benefits, products and services and compatibility with the image of the University and Alumni Association.   
  • Development Efforts – Responsible for assisting the Executive Director and other Association staff members and volunteers in securing charitable gifts for the approved programs and initiatives of the Association. Assist in the identification, prospecting and researching of potential donors to the Association’s campaigns. Meet and participate with Foundation and Athletic Foundation development officers for coordination.
  • Constituent Oversight – Responsible for developing an alumni engagement strategy and providing leadership for the day-to-day oversight of the Association’s geographic based and affinity based alumni groups.
  • Special Projects – This position will, from time-to-time, handle special projects and assignments given by the Executive Director.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Minimum Qualifications  
    Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications or other related field from an accredited college or university and three years of experience in business to business sales, corporate marketing or related, such as experience in creating marketing plans, developing sponsorship opportunities, soliciting membership, management of revenue development programs, etc. The successful candidate will also have demonstrated leadership experience.
    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
     
    • Proficiency in project management methodologies, ability to prioritize tasks, set timelines, coordinate cross-functional teams and manage marketing projects from conception to execution.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to collaborate effective with internal teams, external partners and stakeholders, and build strong relationships to support marketing and PR activities.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively
    • Ability to develop and execute a revenue generation program to include ongoing membership campaigns and advertising and sponsorship opportunities
    • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from various groups of constituents – alumni, business partners, sponsors, board of directors
    • Knowledge with the Microsoft Office suite of programs
    • Excellent organization and time management skills
    • Skill in customer service

    Preferred Qualifications  
    Master’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications or related field.
