The Center for Wellness Promotion uses a public health model and effective prevention and health promotion strategies to help students make informed decisions about their personal health and wellbeing. Our multidisciplinary team of professionals address many issues that are important to students’ health, wellbeing and safety, including sexual and relationship violence, substance use, recovery from substance use disorders, sexual health, and much more. We aspire to empower the University community in developing healthier attitudes and behaviors to create a safer campus.
The Charlotte Recovery Program (CRP) contributes to recovering students’ academic and social success in college through programming efforts, the creation of a supportive environment, volunteerism, and opportunities to increase awareness of substance use issues on UNC Charlotte’s campus and the local community. The CRP provides counseling, social activities, educational seminars, scholarships, and employment opportunities to members. The CRP also focuses on education and outreach both on and off campus in order to reduce stigma around substance use disorders and help-seeking behaviors. While the CRP has historically been an exclusively abstinence-based program, it has recently shifted to a model that supports students who are in any recovery pathway.
