Associate Director for Career Services: Pre-Health
Primary Purpose:
Reporting to the Director for Career Services, the Associate Director for Career Services: Pre-Health provides high-quality career advising, career programming, and career-related event support to all Pacific students and alumni with a focus on students and alumni interested in pre-health pathways. As the team Lead you ensure delivery of innovative, meaningful, and result driven programs and services for students interested in pre-health pathways. This individual serves as the Career Services' liaison to various campus offices/groups as assigned by the supervisor. The position also supports efforts to measure student learning outcomes related to key Career Services programming as instructed by the Director.
Essential Functions:

  • Provides as Lead for pre-health career group and supervises pre-health team members.
  • Provide career services for the Sacramento and San Francisco campuses to graduate students interested in various positions in the healthcare field.
  • Provide students with guidance on career exploration and planning, major choice and change, internship search, resume and cover letter preparation, graduate school planning, job search and interview skill development, career change and other career related needs.
  • Coordinates Career Services 'Dont Cancel Class' service for pre-health faculty. Creates, presents, manages, and tracks the delivery of career presentations. Create and facilitate workshops for academic departments related to career development needs (incorporate employers when appropriate).
  • Provide a quarterly report of all advising, employer engagement, and student engagement and an annual report with a comparison to previous years. Adapts services and develops programs according to survey/research/outcome findings.
  • Available to teach the Career Services 'Career Services Essential Course' based on need.
  • Work with Pre-health career group to plan and execute Career Fairs, Shuttle to Shadow program, workshops, information sessions, and other events. Plan and lead off-campus 'Career Treks' and site visits in the healthcare industry.
  • Visit medical and other professional health schools/programs and attend appropriate annual conferences (national and regional meetings of the National Association of Advisors for the Health Professions) to remain current in best practices. Stay current on industry trends, job market demands, and best practices in career development to provide relevant and up-to-date information for Pre-health students.
  • Establish new relationships with corporations and other organizations that provide full-time, internship, and shadowing opportunities for pre-health students. Engages employers in diverse fields with the goal of developing quality experiences for Pacific students and alumni.
  • Develop relationships with organizations to increase employer relationship development across industries and conduct off-site visits, including the Bay Area and Sacramento area.
  • Develop a plan to engage new and existing employers through LinkedIn, cold-calling, referrals, the alumni database, etc. to create and maintain mutually beneficial relationships. Connect with new/ existing employers each week, preferably in-person, but virtual meetings are also appropriate if in-person cannot be facilitated.
  • Forge robust partnerships with diverse campus departments and student organizations to amplify professional development opportunities for students and exponentially expand their network with employers and avenues for growth.
  • Acts as a 'super user' for Handshake and maintains the system. Provides support to employers (on and off campus) who have questions or need assistance navigating Handshake.
  • Represent Career Services at community meetings including, but not limited to, Chambers of Commerce, United Way, and the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) as identified by supervisor.
  • Implements marketing to raise awareness about full-time and internship positions as well as resources available to support students pursuing these opportunities. Engage students and employers on social media platforms.
  • Develop tailored communications and other written materials customized for Pre-health students. This includes writing and maintaining specific sections of the Career Services website and social media outlets and contribute to unit publications as needed.
  • Certified or the ability to obtain certification in the Strong Interest Inventory and Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI).
  • Promotes and participates in all Career Services events and services, as assigned by supervisor. Supports all Career Services 'student success metrics'.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


This position serves as Campus Security Authority (CSA) as outlined by the Clery Act. CSAs have federally mandated responsibilities to report crimes that are reported them.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Masters Degree (or Bachelors Degree, and enrolled in a Masters Degree Program with a successful completion date within one year from employment).
  • Three (3) years of experience in industry, career services, public health or in a directly related service environment.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong career counseling skills, including use of assessment instruments.
  • Knowledge of laws and ethics related to providing career counseling services.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment.
  • Demonstrated willingness to collaborate with Career Services staff as well as with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to administer and interpret career assessments, to develop and deliver career-related courses and programs.
  • Demonstrated leadership, teamwork, and collaboration skills.
  • Event and program coordination skills.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to experiential learning, establishing professional relationships with employers, students, alumni, and members of the academic community, and to translate perspectives and advocate for various constituents.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Requires extended periods of sitting and repetitive hand/wrist motion while using computer keyboard and phone. Occasional standing, walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping and reaching. Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds. May be exposed to outside environment for special events.
Work Environment/Work Week/Travel:
Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment. Work performed during standard business hours. May be required to work additional hours outside standard business hours and weekends to meet business needs. May require occasional evening or weekend hours to support department, division or University events. Some travel required including attending related conferences, travel to other campuses, and in developing partnerships with employers.
Valid drivers license required. Incumbent must also be able to meet the Universitys fleet rules and be eligible to drive for University business. The University and its insurance carrier reserves the right to exclude applicants based on their driving record.
Hiring Range: $75,000 - $78,000 per year. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidates qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
