Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
Career & Professional Development is the central hub for the career and professional development of students at UNCG. Through our services, programs, and campus partnerships, our career team assists in developing individualized career plans to maximize successful candidates.
Position Summary
This highly visible position manages the career coaching team as well as interns and Graduate Assistants. Designs and implements overarching strategy for career development and makes decisions relating to programming and student services. Manages career education events and programs for students and recent graduates. Advises and coaches individuals on their career plans and conducts presentations inside and outside the classroom on topics including self-assessment, resume development, interview preparation, and job search strategies; Works closely with the Director on all planning and future initiatives. Some evening and weekend hours as required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in student development, counseling, college student personnel,
  • business or related area required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years post graduate professional experience in a central career center or similar setting.
  • Prior supervision experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of career development concepts and theories and strong verbal and written communications, organizational, management, delegation, presentation, negotiation, and marketing skills required.
  • Evidence of an understanding and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience leading a team full-time professional staff.
  • Knowledge of career development principles and possesses excellent coaching skills.
  • Proficient technology skills, especially career technology (such as Handshake, VMock, Big Interview, and other information sources) required.
  • Demonstrated experience planning and implementing both small- and large-scale recruiting events.
  • Ability to work with a broad range of internal and external constituents including students, alumni, employers, faculty, and staff.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Comfortability with public speaking, and presentations to groups of campus stakeholders up to 800 people.
  • Must be able to apply excellent judgment to make decisions, organize work tasks, work independently, and establish priorities.
  • Exceptional organizational, time management, and project management skills.
  • Knowledge of current employment trends.
  • Knowledge of leadership, work style, and personality tests is required.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, of records and information.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, database entry and management technology and interested in identifying and adopting technological advances in the field.
  • Open, friendly personable attitude.
  • Ability to see the big picture.
