ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR-EDUCATION ABROAD & PASSPORT - (T213319)

Description

 

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Office of Education Abroad seeks an Associate Director that will administer all aspects of Education Abroad programs, including but not limited to credit bearing and international athletic, conference, and research travel.  To collaborate with academic units, departments, affiliates, and campus partners in identifying, integrating, and increasing education abroad opportunities. To oversee risk management and collaborate with the Director of Global Affairs to develop and implement a strategic plan that aligns with the goals of the University and the Office of Global Engagement.

Responsibilities:


  • Administer all aspects of Education Abroad programs, including but not limited to credit-bearing and international athletic, conference, and research travel. In collaboration with Director of Global Affairs, manage reciprocal exchange agreements to ensure validity and reciprocity with international institutions.
  • Evaluate and document risk management practices while managing a 24-hour emergency line and other risk management mechanisms; manage student incidents and emergencies to ensure appropriate level of support is provided by internal offices and external partners; act as liaison with health insurance providers regarding student claims.
  • Develop and implement standards for faculty-led program proposals and coordinate programs, provide support and guidance to faculty members interested in developing new education abroad opportunities. Document efficient and effective education abroad policies and procedures, in keeping with professional best practices.
  • Supervise and evaluate all Education Abroad and Passport Services staff; approve leave requests; conduct annual performance reviews; train and mentor staff.
  • Remain up-to-date on current issues and trends affecting exchange programs; coordinate and host recruitment events to increase interest in Education Abroad opportunities; engage in fundraising efforts to increase Ed Abroad scholarships; track scholarships, and prepare reports that demonstrate impact Ed Abroad scholarships.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • (Annual Salary:  $47,665  -  $77,455)
     

    Qualifications

     

    Bachelor's degree in International Studies, Pre-Law, Higher Education or a related field and three (3) years of related experience. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
