Job Description Summary:
The Division of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) is seeking an Associate Director of Constituent Engagement and Annual Fund at the George Washington University. This position will support the School of Engineering and Applied Science (referred to as GW Engineering) and will report to the school-based Director of Constituent Engagement and Annual Fund.
This position develops opportunities to build relationships with engineering stakeholders, strengthen alumni engagement, and deepen alumni affinity to the university and its programs. This role works with alumni, community leaders, students, faculty, and staff in the implementation and development of constituent programs, and partners with the DAR team to create customized stewardship activities, enhance prospect research, engage new constituents, and create materials and stakeholder events. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, a donor-centric mindset, and a willingness to learn and use a variety of technology. This position is a hybrid work schedule with a set schedule of days in-person and days working from home each week.
Duties
Engagement Activities and Tracking
  • In collaboration with the Director of Constituent Engagement and Annual Fund, develop and implement a comprehensive engagement strategy to inspire GW Engineering alumni, parents, and friends to attend events and support the school.
  • With Director, will be responsible for executing virtual engagement plans for alumni groups and families.
  • Help design invites, organize outreach, and track RSVPs for stakeholder events.
  • Facilitate volunteer activities associated with student mentors and student success committee volunteers.
  • Assist with capturing activities for measuring GW Engineering engagement impact in the university dashboard.
  • Serve as the liaison for donor-funded scholarship programs connecting students and alumni.

Stewardship
  • Work with DAR team members to customize stewardship impact reports, host meetings, and honor legacy gifts.
  • Create new customized stewardship activities to recognize top stakeholders.
  • Facilitate meetings between students, faculty, and donors to steward restricted support.
  • Oversee the recognition of key giving anniversary dates for leadership annual fund gifts.
  • Drive strategy for memorial gifts, promoting matching gift opportunities, and department appeals.
  • Organize campus visits for corporate partners involving executive recruitment staff.

Communications and Research
  • Assist with customized communication strategies associated with GW Engineering events, coordinating communication with other units, and tracking invitations and RSVPs.
  • Produce an electronic monthly alumni newsletter.
  • Oversee alumni mapping efforts utilizing LinkedIn, referrals, and relationship data.
  • Execute marketing plans and promote constituent programming through social media channels and social media ambassadors.
  • Manage the alumni email account and respond to inquiries by alumni, internal stakeholders, and external partners.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 2 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and project/event management skills combined with an acute attention to detail.
  • Background in events management, donor recognition, and organizing stewardship activities.
  • Experience in alumni relations, donor retention, research projects, serving volunteers and working in a fast-paced environment.
  • History of collaborating with a diverse group of stakeholders, high-wealth individuals, and C-suite executives.
  • Proficient in utilizing social media, electronic invite systems, events management tools, and project management applications.
  • Innovative thinker who enjoys being involved in new projects.
  • Aptitude for database management, producing reports, and tracking data.
Typical Hiring Range $57,553.66 - $79,165.63 How is pay for new employees determined at GW?
