Associate Director, Berklee Study Abroad

Job Description:

Under the supervision of the Director of International Student Services and Study Abroad, the Associate Director for Study Abroad has primary responsibility for oversight of the enrollment of the Berklee Study Abroad program in Boston. The Associate Director provides leadership by supervising program enrollment operations, developing and implementing policies and procedures, building collaborations between key departments across both campuses (Boston and Valencia), with participating schools, and with key external constituents, and establishing priorities that lead to enhancing the overall study abroad experience, all in support of the college’s mission and strategic initiatives.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Recruitment & Marketing

  • Responsible for meeting enrollment goals for the study abroad program
  • Develops and manages recruitment campaigns
  • Leads and facilitates events aimed at fostering interest in study abroad, preparing students for departure, and supporting students with re-entry, in collaboration with other student services departments across the college. Events include Orientation Programs, Information Sessions, Family Weekend, Majors/Minors Fairs, and Pre-Departure Meetings at Berklee and at participating schools
  • Develops content for the study abroad website and other program materials and communications including announcements, events, newsletters, and social media
  • Works collaboratively with the Assistant Director for Marketing, Senior Marketing Coordinator, and Enrollment Technology Manager in Valencia to develop and implement marketing strategy, standard communication plan, and technology platforms, ensuring that the college’s enrollment targets are being supported 

Admissions & Advising

  • Oversees management of applications in Salesforce, builds and maintains reports, and works with Enrollment Technology Manager to solve any issues that arise
  • Advises students, parents, faculty, and staff in every aspect of study abroad, including applications, financial planning, academics, student visas, health insurance, safety, housing, and general policies and procedures
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with other areas at the college, across both campuses, ensuring a smooth process for all students throughout their study abroad experience (e.g., Registrar, Academic Advising, Disability Services, Student Financial Services, Health and Wellness, Housing, and Academic Departments)
  • Supports Divisional Deans and Major Chairs in planning curriculum and advising models based on students’ academic needs, advising students on when to study abroad, and helping them plan their courses in Valencia

 

Enrollment Operations & Program Development

  • Develops program goals and learning outcomes and leads assessment and evaluation efforts.
  • Works collaboratively with Boston Conservatory at Berklee Deans and Chairs, as well as Valencia administration to explore possibilities for BCB students to study in Valencia
  • Serves as lead partner for the development of re-entry programming for Berklee First-Year Abroad students
  • Develops and maintains the study abroad budget; oversees office planning and special projects
  • Supports the Director in leading the study abroad operations committee (includes staff from diverse areas across both campuses), advising on current enrollment, priorities, and/or concerns, and ensuring that all program needs and goals are being supported
  • Provides guidance and support to the study abroad student employees in leading overall program operations
  • Participates in international education conferences and researches industry trends to keep up to date on current study abroad issues, support services, and financial/academic opportunities for students
  • Supports the Director in assessing the Study Abroad program operations
  • Works closely with the Spanish consulate, provide advice and support to study abroad and first year abroad students applying for a Spanish student visa. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5 years of progressively responsible experience in study abroad/international education management and/or advising, 
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully work with students, parents, faculty, and staff in a culturally diverse environment
  • Experience studying, living, or working abroad
  • Bachelor's degree

PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Professional proficiency/fluency in Spanish
  • Master’s degree preferably with an international focus or in a related field
  • Supervisory experience (of full-time staff or students/interns)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Strong project management and event planning skills
  • Ability to manage simultaneous competing priorities within given deadlines
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication
  • Knowledge of Google platform, Mac operating system, MS Office, and social media platforms
  • Discretion in dealing with confidential information
  • Willingness to travel frequently (domestically and abroad) and work some evenings/weekends as needed
  • Comfort with speaking to large audiences of students, parents, staff, and faculty
  • Ability to develop, implement, and communicate policies and procedures effectively
  • High degree of professionalism to represent the college and department both internally and externally 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directly supervises, hires, and train student employees.
