Position Overview

The Associate Director is responsible for managing, coordinating, and directing all activities in Facilities on the KLETC campuses.  Working with senior leadership, the Associate Director is responsible for overseeing capital design and construction projects, building operations, maintenance, grounds, custodial services, and information technology (IT).  Responsible for overseeing short and long-range deferred maintenance and strategic capital planning for existing facilities and new construction.

Job Description

50%    Construction management and management of capital projects.

  • Oversees capital projects, including construction, building alteration and renovation, expansion, and utility upgrades. 
  • Working with university architect, provides project review and approval of facility renovation and new construction projects.
  • Reviews and provides input on campus master plan and ensures compliance with campus master plan. 
  • Ensures facilities and IT are maintained and secured to provide staff, students, and visitors with the environment and functionality required to perform at the highest levels.   
30%    Personnel and budgetary oversight.
  • Provides strategic leadership to facilities and IT with an emphasis on resource deployment and performance management. 
  • Oversees departmental budget for facilities and IT and identifies facility operation expenses and equipment needs for campus. 
  • Collaborates with business office on contracts associated with facilities and IT.
10%    Serves as a senior administrator of KLETC with campus-wide responsibility.
  • Participates in the development, recommendation, and administration of policies, procedures, and processes in support of departmental operations. 
  • Chairs and/or serves on internal and external search committees.
  • Represents the Vice Provost on boards, commissions, and committees throughout the state.
  • Serves as a liaison to state and national professional organizations,
10%     Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction management or related field and 3 years related experience OR Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction management or related field and five years related experience;
  • Five years of supervisory experience;
  • Experience applying effective communication skills to all levels of an organization as evidenced by work history and application materials;   
  • Experience organizing, managing, and supervising multiple and varied tasks and projects as demonstrated by education, work history, and application material;
  • Valid Kansas driver’s license or ability to obtain one within 90 days.

  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in an educational setting or other similarly complex organization with responsibility for multiple buildings;
  • Experience managing multi-million dollar capital budget;
  • Experience applying technical expertise in construction and renovation management;
  • Three years of experience in contract negotiation and management;
  • Experience working with various levels of staff and external organizations with different backgrounds and fields.
