Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides strategic vision and leadership in meeting the School’s research goals as defined by the SSW and UTA strategic plans, as well as developing and refining the School’s research mission.
  • Provides mentoring and facilitates mentoring networks for faculty and Ph.D. students.
  • Provides consultation and assistance to faculty and Ph.D. students in pursuing research career trajectories that have high scientific and community impact and elevate the scholarly profile of the School of Social Work and UTA.
  • Provides consultation and assistance to faculty and Ph.D. students regarding identification of potential funding sources and collaborations for their area of study.
  • Provides consultation and assistance to faculty and Ph.D. students regarding preparation and submission of proposals to diversify and expand research funding.
  • Promotes opportunities for engagement of undergraduate and graduate students in research.
  • Forms collaborative research groups to facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration within the SSW and across disciplines at UTA.
  • Develops, expands, and maintains research partnerships with community and industry partners, including entrepreneurship and intellectual property, such as copyright and patents.
  • Ensures that School of Social Work research-related activities are compliant with SSW, UTA, funders, state and federal policies and procedures related to research.
  • Provides ongoing inclusive supervision and professional development for personnel who provide research-related support services.
  • Engages with the marketing and communications department to promote visibility and impact of faculty research and other accomplishments
  • Works collaboratively with the Ph.D. director to ensure sustainable support, retention, and growth of the Ph.D. program.
  • Collaborates to develop and oversee a significant budget to meet the goals of the SSW in fostering the positive development of research-active faculty and Ph.D. students.
    • Supports recruitment, hiring, and orientation of new faculty
    • Coordinates holistic and inclusive professional development opportunities related to the multiple roles of faculty members
    • Oversees and provides support to the faculty committee for promotion, tenure, and annual review processes
    • Facilitates recognition for faculty in research, teaching, and service.
    • Oversees mechanisms for faculty grievances
Required Qualifications
  • Earned research-focused Ph.D. in social work or related field.
  • Eligibility for a tenured appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or higher.
  • A demonstrated record of program and research leadership.
  • A demonstrated record of large-scale external funding.
  • A strong record of working with and supporting the professional growth and development of colleagues; including full and part-time faculty, staff and students.
Preferred Qualifications
  • An MSW from a CSWE accredited program
  • Eligibility for a tenured appointment at the rank of full professor
  • A demonstrated record of leading externally funded research
  • Established program of research with significant federal funding
