Job Description:
The College of Design, Construction and Planning invites applications for the position of Associate Dean
for Research and Strategic Initiatives. This is an INTERNAL search and the applicant must be a
current permanent faculty member at the University of Florida.
 
The College of Design, Construction and Planning consists of the Department of Interior Design, and
the Schools of Architecture, Construction Management, and Landscape Architecture and Planning. In
addition, the interdisciplinary Doctoral Program, Program in Historic Preservation, and Program in
Sustainability and the Built Environment involve faculty from all academic units, and are vibrant
contributors to the College’s academic and research missions. The College is also a leader in online
education with several degrees, certificates and individual courses that further enhance its academic
programs. Over 1800 students are enrolled in the College, 1300 of whom are undergraduates and
about 500 in graduate degree programs. The Associate Dean will provide oversight for all graduate
academic programs and will act as liaison between these programs and the Graduate School as
needed.
 
Our current faculty is comprised of about 120 people with about two-thirds of these tenured or in
tenure accruing positions. In academic year 2022-2023, the College attracted just under $7M in
external research grants. The new Associate Dean will lead the research efforts of the College,
both funded and unfunded, and will represent the College with the UF Office of Research. The
College seeks an experienced researcher with his/her own well developed research agenda, who
will also mentor fellow faculty and student researchers while fostering growth in research
productivity.
 
The Associate Dean will have a tenure home in one of the College’s academic units but will report
directly to the Dean. The Associate Dean is responsible for:
  • Overseeing grant proposals, awards and post-award compliance.
  • Working with staff to maintain accurate financial records associated with funded research,managing cost sharing agreements, and preparing performance metrics.
  • Representing the College with the Graduate School and Office of Research.
  • Designing and coordinating the College’s annual Research Symposium and/or other collegewideresearch dissemination and/or participatory events.
  • Fostering excellence in scholarship and research within the College.
  • Supporting a culture of collegiality, professionalism, and innovation in research.
  • Coordinating with the Graduate School and College units to recruit and retain Graduate andPhD students while fostering diversity.
  • Maintaining oversight of faculty affairs, with a particular focus on tenure and promotion (T & P)issues, mentoring arrangements for junior faculty, and career development opportunities forfaculty.
  • Ensuring the effective running of the College’s graduate programs.
  • Developing a mentoring program for faculty and doctoral students.
  • Serving as a member of the college’s Administrative Council.
  • Undertake other administrative duties as needed by the Dean.
  • Teaching assignments may be assigned, if necessary.
Expected Salary:

Commensurate based on experience, education, and qualifications.

Minimum Requirements:
  • This is an internal search and the applicant must be a current permanent faculty member at the University of Florida.
  • Terminal degree in one of the following disciplines: architecture, construction management,
    historic preservation, interior design, landscape architecture, urban and regional planning or
    other related fields.
  • Focused scholarly work that has led to a sound publication record.
  • Strong track record of funded research.
  • Administrative or leadership experience.
  • Teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • PhD
  • Professional licensure

 This is a 12-month appointment that will be made at the tenured Associate or Full Professor level, depending upon the qualifications of the applicant. The term of the appointment is July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2027, with the possibility of renewal.


Salary is commensurate with qualifications.
