Job Summary:

The University of Colorado (CU), College of Nursing is seeking an exceptional faculty leader to serve as the Associate Dean for Clinical and Community Affairs (CCA), a faculty administrative appointment. The ideal candidate would be qualified to hold a full-time (1.00 FTE) faculty appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor with dedicated time to serve as the Associate Dean for Clinical and Community Affairs ( an administrative faculty appointment).  

The Associate Dean of CCA serves as the senior administrator overseeing the CU College of Nursing’s faculty practice enterprise and is responsible for strategic development, clinical faculty/staff support, compliance, practice, and clinical site operations.  The Associate Dean is responsible for ensuring that the practice activities are conducted efficiently and ethically, consistent with the rules and regulations of the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus and the CU College of Nursing. This position directly supervises faculty and staff as needed within the clinical enterprise structure.  

The Associate Dean for Clinical and Community Affairs reports directly to the Dean of the College of Nursing and works collaboratively with other leaders in the college, as well as faculty and staff.  

Examples of Work Performed: 

  • Articulates a compelling, inclusive vision for the future of practice within the CU College of Nursing. Provides strategic leadership in developing and refining the College’s practice mission and activities.
  • Provides leadership in defining levels of excellence in nursing practice within the CU College of Nursing
  • Provides leadership in designing systems of evaluation that ascertain whether levels of excellence are being met within the practice enterprise.
  • Provides leadership in designing, implementing, and evaluating models of clinical practice.
  • Facilitates interprofessional and collaborative efforts.
  • Reviews relevant campus, federal, and state fiscal policies and procedures related to clinical affairs.
  • Provides leadership in developing specific College of Nursing policies and procedures within the clinical practice enterprise that tie into relevant college, campus, and university policies and procedures.
  • Directs that the CU Nursing Office of Clinical and Community Affairs operations are consistent with CCA, College, Campus, and University policies and procedures.
  • Designs, in collaboration with faculty, staff, and clinical agencies, a variety of practice opportunities that allow the College to meet its stated goals for community service and faculty practice.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates programs that reflect current practice trends to meet the needs for service, clinical practice, and communities that stems from the philosophy and goals of the College of Nursing, the Anschutz Medical Campus and the general University.
  • Provides oversight to provider support functions such as CCA onboarding, credentialing, scheduling, and peer review.
  • Provides oversight to compliance and safety functions for faculty practice within the CU College of Nursing.
  • Collaborates with the Office of University Counsel and CU Nursing Dean’s Office in developing professional service agreements and MOUs.
  • Establishes and manages positive relationships with various internal and external constituents and appropriately represents the College of Nursing.
  • Creates a system of accountability by defining and reporting quality metrics and productivity standards for CU Nursing practice faculty.
  • Serves as the designated Chair of the CU Nursing HealthCare Partners Governing Board.
  • Oversees and monitors the financial status of the clinical enterprise in the CU College of Nursing.
  • Provides leadership in identifying external funding opportunities to support the practice missions of the College.
  • Works with CU Nursing Office of Research and Scholarship to submit grants and funding requests to external agencies to expand and support practice initiatives.
  • Provides oversight of the faculty practice enterprise, including Sheridan Health Services (a multi-site, nurse-led, interprofessional federally qualified health center), two midwifery practices (University Nurse-Midwives and the Center for Midwifery), a primary care clinic on AMC (Campus Community Health) as well as other clinical practice sites.
  • Provides oversight of clinical activities emphasizing efficiency, productivity, and accountability.
  • Provides leadership and supervision to clinical directors to ensure consistency in scope of practice, practice guidelines, and patient care quality.
  • Encourage a culture of belonging, grounding learning in mutual responsibility and respect, life-long learning, diversity and ethics, as well as personal and professional development.

    Anticipated Pay Range:

    The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

    Associate Professor of Clinical Practice: $110,000 to $130,000 annually at 1.0 FTE

    Professor of Clinical Practice: $125,000 to $155,000 annually at 1.0 FTE

    Associate Professor (Tenure Eligible): $115,000 to $135,000 annually at 1.0 FTE

    Professor (Tenure Eligible): $130,000 to $160,000 annually at 1.0 FTE

    The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.

    • Eligible to obtain an unencumbered nursing license in Colorado;
    • A Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) or an earned doctorate in an appropriate field of science, nursing, social science, education, or related area, from an accredited institution of higher education.
    • Eligible for faculty rank of Associate Professor or higher.
    • Five years’ experience working in a clinical or hospital setting, providing direct and/or indirect patient care (i.e. as an RN, APRN, Charge Nurse, Chief Nursing Officer or similar positions).
    • Five or more years of management experience, including financial and supervisory experience.
    • A record of demonstrated effectiveness in practice, collegial collaboration, and commitment to a program of scholarship to qualify for the rank of Associate Professor in the Clinical Practice faculty track. 

    Professor of Clinical Practice:

    • Eligible to obtain an unencumbered nursing license in Colorado;
    • A Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) or an earned doctorate in an appropriate field of science, nursing, social science, education, or related area, from an accredited institution of higher education.
    • Eligible for faculty rank of Associate Professor or higher

    • A record of demonstrated effectiveness in practice, collegial collaboration, and commitment to a program of scholarship to qualify for the rank of Professor in the Clinical Practice faculty track. 

    Associate Professor (Tenure Eligible):

    • Eligible to obtain an unencumbered nursing license in Colorado;
    • An earned doctorate in an appropriate field of science, nursing, social science, education, or related area, from an accredited institution of higher education.
    • Eligible for faculty rank of Associate Professor with tenure.
    • Five years’ experience working in a clinical or hospital setting, providing direct and/or indirect patient care (i.e. as an RN, APRN, Charge Nurse, Chief Nursing Officer or similar positions).
    • Five or more years of management experience, including financial and supervisory experience.
    • A record of scholarship and experience to qualify for the rank of Associate Professor, or Professor in a tenure eligible position.

    o   Minimum qualifications for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor include an extensive and continuing body of research published in peer-reviewed scholarly journals.

    • Evidence of focused area of research.
    • Experience in teaching and mentoring students, ideally including students with diverse cultural backgrounds.
    • Experience in securing funding via grants and contracts, as evidenced by past achievements. This could include pilot funding, intramural funding, or similar. 

    Professor (Tenure Eligible):

    • Eligible to obtain an unencumbered nursing license in Colorado;
    • An earned doctorate in an appropriate field of science, nursing, social science, education, or related area, from an accredited institution of higher education.
    • Eligible for faculty rank of Associate Professor with tenure.
    • Five years’ experience working in a clinical or hospital setting, providing direct and/or indirect patient care (i.e. as an RN, APRN, Charge Nurse, Chief Nursing Officer or similar positions).
    • Five or more years of management experience, including financial and supervisory experience.
    • A record of scholarship and experience to qualify for the rank of Professor in a tenure-eligible position.

    o   Minimum qualifications for appointment at the rank of Professor include a proven track record of extramural funding, substantial scholarship in peer reviewed journals, national recognition for program of research, and leadership in professional organizations.

    • Evidence of focused area of research.
    • Experience in teaching and mentoring students, ideally including students with diverse cultural backgrounds.
    • Experience in securing funding via grants and contracts, as evidenced by past achievements. This could include pilot funding, intramural funding, or similar. 

    Conditions of employment:

    • Must be willing and able to travel to multiple practice/clinical sites related to overall duties.
    • Must be willing and able to obtain Colorado licenses by date of hire.
    • Must be willing and able to remain credentialed by all necessary parties and ensure credentialing materials stay current.
    • Must be willing and able to obtain current BLS/CPR certification by date of hire.
    • Must be willing and able to work in a normal patient care environment with some exposure to biological hazards and infectious diseases. 

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • A Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) or an earned doctorate in nursing from an accredited institution of higher education.
    • Five years experience working as an APRN and/or as an RN directly supporting APRNs in their practice model
    • Experience managing a clinical site and/or practice, ideally nurse-led, including financial and supervisory experience,
    • Clinical practice development experience.
    • Experience coordinating grant-funded projects.
